Penn State scandal (merged)

You're either a harborer of serial molesters or the exact opposite. No way you could be fooled by a respected colleague and friend.

I just think the facts make it plainly obvious that he wasn't fooled. Again, if Paterno thought the GA was just making up the story about poor ole Jerry, he wouldn't have promoted him. It's pretty obvious that he did believe the GA but chose to wash his hands of it while sitting back watching Sandusky walk into the facilities anytime he wanted to.

He had a wife and 6 adopted kids. Wonder what she thinks about all of this? Has she came out and said anything? She had to know. How long until those kids come forward too?

I've wondered all along about his own children...I'd be very surprised if none of them had suffered some sort of abuse.

I said what? No I didnt, another case of you idgits employing selective remembering.

I've read the Grand Jury report, have you? There's nothing in that report that implicates Paterno of anything, and I have also read the law, and of course Paterno could have done more, but he is in compliance with the law.

Now, since you guys are so smart. Please tell me what you know about the conversations between Curley, Paterno, and the university president. Am I going to have to wait on that long, because I'm tired of this stupid argument and all the know it alls around here that think they know everything about this case, even though there is much that hasn't been released to the press.

Now I'm just guessing, but I believe that meeting with Curley at Paterno's house went something like this...."Thank you Joe, you did the right thing. Dont worry about a thing, WE'LL take care of it."

You do realize the man was 74 years old at the time, was not a school administrator, and fulfilled his obligation to report the shower incident up the channel. You guys are just speculating about what he knew and when he knew it and how much he knew and THAT is all just purely guesswork. And yes, the man does deserve the benefit of the doubt until the time when evidence suggests otherwise. Right now there is none. Sorry. lol

Damn, I spoke too soon.

I think it's downright awful that there are so many people eager to jump on to the moral high ground with this story. He did exactly what he was supposed to do and yet somehow he's the bad guy? If anyone should be berated for their inaction it should be the AD, as far as I'm concerned Paterno was alerted to the issue (albeit the details of the incident were not given to him) and he did what any responsible person in his position should do, notify their superior. This is the grey area, people are harping on him for not following up with the AD or reporting the incident to the police, well we don't know what he knew, maybe he didn't know a child was involved, perhaps he wasn't told it was a sexual assault that had taken place, all I'm saying is, while there are things about this that aren't right maybe we should save judgment for when we know the whole story.
It's had not to be on higher moral ground than Paterno and the whole bunch at the Athletic Department of PSU (Pathetic State University).

Haha. Definitely not that far, my friend. By the way, my apologies if I said anything offensive to you earlier today. It's a touchy subject for everyone. :hi:

Hey man, wouldn't have lasted 7 years on here if I couldn't take what people say on the interwebs. :hi:

We do know what he knew; you just don't. He knew it was a child, and he knew it was about a child being sexually assaulted unless, of course, you're going to try to say that Paterno was lying when he admitted that to the Grand Jury.

You serious about that Clark?

Paterno testified that he was told Sandusky was in the shower with a child. That part is irrefutable.

I'm not sure you understand how influential Jo Pa is around here.

I don't know, Some of the stuff I read was pretty bad. I just feel like maybe he just assumed it was being taken care of. One thing that shocked me was that the AD knew exactly what was going on and allowed the guy to stay on staff but simply banned him from bringing kids to the facilities, now that is a stand up kind of guy.

He told the guys in charge what was going on - they are the ones who failed to take action. Should he have done more? Yes. But calling him a piece of trash is pathetic. He's a great coach and a good (not perfect) man. I don't give a damn what you guys think. I respect the guy.

No, I literally hadn't read the testimony. Well that clarifies things quite a bit. Yeah I retract my previous statement regarding Joe Paterno. I was still under the impression that the grand jury testimony hadn't been released.

Well, yes. That's exactly what he assumed. It was being taken care of.

haha I never said that. I only said Lawboy didnt know what the hell he was talking about when it came to federal "jurisdiction." Besides, this investigation is by the Education Department, not the FBI.

I guess good, as in a good man, is in the eye of the beholder. The idea of good is relative to one's reference point.

What would you think of yourself if you had a report that someone was ass raping kids in your office, and then you simply reported it to a superior who did nothing while, in the mean time, the alleged raper continues to hang around you at the office for the next decade racking up countless more victims and you never say another word?

If you respect that kind of behavior, I feel sorry for you.

Pretty much my thoughts.

Why. What happened in 1998 and was brought to quite a few peoples attention? Maybe, the reason the old bastard made him retire in 1999, no, couldn't have been. Maybe it was in 2002 when the GA told him Sandusky was horsing around in the shower with a 10 yr old? No, nothing seems wrong with a 60 yr old, a 10 yr old, and a shower. Yea, I can see where he really didn't get the idea he was a serial rapist.

Sandusky was caught by a janitor giving oral sex to a young boy in a hallway after hours and there was an incident in 2000.So there were other events besides '98 and other people who had witnessed Sandusky before 2002. YOU CANT TELL ME JOE DIDNT HEAR ABOUT EVERYTHING ON THAT CAMPUS.There might have even been rumors and incidents we dont even know about yet that Paterno knew about. Paterno should have called the police and a press conf. and say his former coach was going to answer for his pedophilia. He'd been a hero. Now almost 10 years later he's leaving in disgrace all because he didnt call or do enough.

You can't argue that it wasn't Paterno's fault. He didn't follow up on it and he knew Sandusky still had access to the facilities.
