Paterno is the beloved face of the university who eventually became a sort of lovable mascot. He was the symbol of their Happy Valley fairy tale.

Alabama fans almost literally thought Bryant was a god.

You mind starts to fade when you enter your late 60's.
At least for most people. Your not as sharp as you once were.
People go around scamming seniors all the time because of it. It's just a fact of life.
