Per Twitter Tee Declines

If he can't sell one of Tennessee's own on his program and his vision while holding a $350,000+ check in front of him... how is he going to get a LB or a RB out of Georgia or Louisiana to buy in?

This, IMO, can be directly correlated to his ability or inability to recruit. Tennessee is not a hotbed for talent, so in most cases we're going to have to pull kids out of state and away from the hometown school and more importantly away from Momma. If the wife comments are true regarding Tee's decision... clearly Butch didn't do enough to sell Momma.

I hope I'm wrong.... but as the Dooley and Sunseri debacle showed us, that's not likely.

And for the record... I'm not a negabutch... just calling it like I see it. I hope he does well here but this is what it is... his first failure as UT's coach. It was a must hire and he didn't make it happen. It was the one guy that would bring a sense of perceived credibility to the staff amongst the Vol faithful. Big miss imo.

Wow, in with ignorance already. Hiring a coach and recruiting are two different things. Especially if the conversation went something like Hey Tee, going to give you 50% of what you are making now to come home. Finally realizing you are actually just another teams troll.

I think his wife had alot to do with it! Wants to be a singer and feels LA will help her!

She doesn't want to be a singer she is a singer. She had a top 20 hit in 2001 but her solo career went south the next year. She is basically a backup singer now but still works with a lot of well know performers. That didn't keep them from living in Lexington and moving wasn't an issue last year when they moved to LA. I don't blame Tee for staying but it bothers me that he openly complained that Dooley never offered him a job and then when we do he declines. Timing is everything but still

Wow. I mean wow. That makes it even crappier that he declined.

Not in my book. I had subtle fears in the back of my mind that CBJ low-balled him in hopes that he would decline. My fear was that the interview was all show, just for the fanbase.

This looks like he is serious about his promises to build a UT-flavored staff. Looks like Tee lost out to the wishes of his wife. I can understand that.

Now, we let it go and move on.

Just to throw it out there....Kiffin's seat is getting rather warm in LA. Another year remotely like the one he had this year and that whole staff might be looking for a new job. Not to say we are a picture of stability here lately, but USC isn't exactly calm waters these days.

There is a risk in both positions.

If Kiffin doesn't win it all next season he is out. He came out ranked #1 preseason. The AP poll now has USC 4 votes behind Cincinnati to get into the top 25. Kiffin already sacrificed his dad Monte. It was either Monte was out or both of them were out. Now next season with the talent they have it's do or die for Kiffin.

USC is a private school, they do not disclose the coaches salaries and it is well known USC pays their coaches a lot more than most schools...Kiffin went form making 2 million HERE to making 4 million THERE...You figure it out...Doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure out.

If he turned the job down: If 375k was a raise for him, he is not living high on the hog in LA. Houses here that go for 200K are nearly 500k in LA. He would have to be making more than CBJ offered him to exist in LA, send his kids to decent schools and support a wannabe starlet wife. I am willing to be the wife would be 90% of the decision to stay in LA. She's done nothing since 01.

Not convinced he has turned the job down yet. I would think that we would have heard something a little more definite than twitter......just sayin.

The love-hate relationship some Vol fans have with the coaches, the team and players (current & former) is quite the emotional roller-coaster ride.

It's a a business decision, yes. But after this, I hope Tennessee never offers Tee another coaching job. Doesn't deserve another chance to come back here. Have fun at USC, Tee. Don't come back.

Couldn't agree more. If you're not interested in helping us get the program back on track, don't be calling us up once we are back.

When Pat Hayden fires Kiffin, and he will, I hope the wife's career can keep you up in LA because you will be gone too.

TNGlen:

I agree with you 100 percent. I heard Ainge announce it this morning but never heard anything about a twitter. Saw another post in this thread that was supposed to be a Tee quote but it was way too long for a twitter I think. I'll wait for an announcement from UT especially since Tee said he would go back to LA and think about it.

According to Basilio, Martin was asking for $500,000/year.

Really? Enjoy LA, Tee.

He knew he had leverage and tried to use it. I can't blame him but I also can't blame UT for not paying it. On the other hand his recruiting here would probably be worth 500k a year. Pretty easy for nc winning qb to sell his school.

Uh yea sure. Another "smokescreen" for the fanbase.

I have and old Pat Haden Rams jersey. Would you ask him to autograph it for me?

Let's look at it from his wife's perspective. She followed him to
Albuquerque, New Mexico to support his coaching career. They moved cross country to Lexington Ky after a year when he got a better job offer. Nor two years later they move cross country again to LA, again for a better job. Now she wants to sing again. She is in LA now great place for it. Now 10 months later we are talking about moving cross country again this time a lateral move at best for Tee (not really it's a step down let's be real). With a new baby to a place that make it harder to do what she wants to do. I can understand her reluctance and if he did it to make her happy as a married man I can understand that too. I wish he were coming but I don't fault his decision good luck and God bless.

Realistically: Of course Tee isn't to blame. He made the right call. If you take off your orange glasses, coming here would be a step down. Simple as that. He is responsible for a number of big recruits coming to SC right now, and one of his kids just won the Biletnikoff trophy.

Get this in your mind, Tennessee is not a step down. I just don't understand why "fans" post such sh!t .
usc is on a much harsher probation than UT is and the scholarship limits will be reflected in wins and losses in the near future. This yearstop recruiting class will their last for a few years . There signs surfer dude's ship is taking on water, and it couldn't have happened to a better person. So wear your life jacket Tee.

If you are standing on that proverbial ledge from this ordeal then please jump off. We won't miss you.

If you are saying we should never offer him another job again you are butthurt and stupid. Find that ledge also and jump off.

Tee has done more for this football program than any of you. Turning this job down was probably one of the toughest decisions he has ever had to make.

Stupid post is stupid.

yet Tee chose to stay

Who gives a ****....If Tee doesn't want to be here yet, fine. We really don't even know how good of a coach he is....who has he helped do anything and don't say the kid at USC, he was great way before Tee did anything.

This is a win/win for CBJ he looks like he tried to get more orange blood on staff and Martin looks like he didn't want to come back. Chances are Jones would want to make his own hire anyways...not a big deal.

I understand both sides of the situation...Tee looks either like a guy aligning himself with a HC that took a dump on Tennessee Football while being asked to help rebuild, or a guy looking out for what is best for his family and career....neither is wrong just different point of views.
