Phil Fulmer to (fill in the blank) thread...merged

Anyone think theres a chance? I mean, Im sure he will put his name in just like he has for every other job. He may be a good fit for the Big East. I hope he winds up somewhere. If he can get the fire back he used to have, he may have some good years left. That being said. . . . I think Lane Kiffin is the best thing to happen to Tennessee football in a LONG time.

I don't think he would be a bad hire there. I think he would do a good job for their program, but he may have a hard time selling himself to their AD. I also wonder what he is expecting in terms of a paycheck. It seems like he wouldn't really need money by now, but everybody likes $$$.

Could be. Cincinnati isn't really an attractive job. Kelly made it. What it is. There really is no tradition, but he has left some talent there. This hire is make or break for them.

Cincy doesn't want Fulmer. They need a coach that can coach up players that aren't necessarily the most talented players. Kelly never had great classes, but always developed and gameplanned to perfection. His playcalling is brilliant. Sound like Fulmer? The only shot of Cincy being successful with a guy like Fulmer is if they went head to head with Ohio St. and won some huge recruits. That simply just won't happen.

I don't know if even Fulmer would be very interested in that job. I hear Cincy has no facilities. Fulmer always got tons of praise heaped on him for recruiting well in his earlier years, but look at the facilities and school he had to offer.

Cincy will probably go with a coordinator. I think the OC is coaching the bowl game. Wouldn't surprise me if they just gave it to him on a full time gig.

Fulmer maybe a nice guy, but we're seeing just how much he was valued in coaching circles right now. If there was ever doubt that Fulmer was mediocre all doubts should be erased now. Two years running and no one is going to give him a job.

It would probly be a good fit for Phil. He certainly can't bring a program up. He's wanting a program already established. Think about it. His last HC job came after the program was one year removed from back to back SEC championships.....

No self respecting program in a major conference will hire Fulmer. You would think the way some talk about his virtue and coaching prowess, ADs would be beating his door down to get him to their program.

Well, now that Brian Kelly is the new coach at Notre Dame, and dropped his players like a hot potato, Fulmer would be logical fit for Cincy. Perhaps he could bring Chief back to head up the defense. Heaven knows the teams in the Big East need defensive help. I don't think Cincy will be able to pull in a big name despite their success as their facilities suck and is one of the reasons Kelly wanted out. He knew he couldn't sustain this level of success there.

Well, most of the Div. I vacant positions are beginning to fill or involve a list of likely canidates. Despite former Coach Fulmer making everyone aware that he is available, no one seems interested. With a 152-52 overall record, it is somewhat strange that he is getting no interest from anyone. Is he likely to get a job? Indicating that he was interested in the Notre Dame job seemed to be somewhat of a joke.

Your dad wouldn't give you the keys to his Mercedes again if you wrecked it, would he?

Fulmer is done, it was obvious to most every one when we UT finally cut ties. He and a few others mistakenly thought he was going to get more than a passing glance from programs with turn over.

I think he sees the writing on the wall now, all the new vacancies either want a guy at their peak or a young up and comer.

Phil "cut his own throat" when he kept taking jabs at UT on the CBS Sports show. If a coach will down his "supposedly" beloved university then why would you want him to head up your football program. Phil let his anger and ego get the best of him. If he doesn't land a job for the next football season then he is permanently finished as a head coach. I don't think any prominent program wants him.

How many phones has Phil had to ring off the wall? How many doors has he replaced that have been beaten down from those looking for a head coach?

"After speaking with representatives with the University of Cincinnati yesterday and today, I declined an interview," he said in a statement. "I am looking forward to our first bowl practice later this afternoon and later honoring our seniors at the football banquet tonight."

The Bearcats are in the midst of leadership change after former coach Brian Kelly left the program for Notre Dame on Thursday.

Kelly posted a 34-6 record in three years at the school and has guided Cincinnati to consecutive BCS bowl appearances in the past two seasons.

Sumlin, who took the Houston job in 2008, came to the Cougars after a five-year stint as an Oklahoma offensive assistant under Bob Stoops.

The Cougars are 18-8 under Sumlin and will play Air Force in the Bell Helicopter Armed Forces Bowl on Dec. 31.

Kansas no, Louisville no, Notre Dame no

He has to know by now that TN was hanging on to a dinosaur.
