Phil Just Got Served?

Fulmer..

Phillip Fulmer failed yesterday. Miserably.

failed at what? He said he did not pay attention to it until he left the hotel (which is after his conf).

Hagood and Ford both said that Fulmer became aware of the subpoena only after he and the rest of UT's traveling party left the hotel to fly to Nashville.

I'm really missing the point of calling this a failure just for failing to recognize a childish stunt by some ambulance chaser.

I'm not answering for OWH. His response would be much more articulate.

Fulmer knew very well what was laid in his lap. Like many other problems that have faced his football team in the last few years he turned a blind eye, and tried to really pretend like it didn't exist.

Instead of taking the bull by the horns, he was able to lend credence to the stunt. Instead of facing the challenge he took a 'cut and run' approach. They wanted to rattle Phil, and by his response he gave them the ole "mission accomplished".

no, you assume he knew. I see nothing to back that up. And to try and equate this to issues with the football team is weak.

He knew...and this is exactly how he has managed the program over the last ten years, so I consider it very relevant.

OK, for starters, the questions he was getting alone were reason enough to stop and sit down with Bud Ford to work out a proper way to cope with what was happening on the floor of The Wynfrey.

Instead Phil pretty much blasted reporters for bringing it up in the media days forum. Fulmer is the doggone dean of SEC coaches. He knows as well as anyone those reporters had an obligation to question him on the matter. If he's seen the document or not, it does not excuse him flying off angrily about the matter.

Second, let's face it, he knew. The attempt at plausible deniability was weak.

Why do I think he knew, well for one he said himself in his release that he had a long talk with Mike Slive about the matter. He didn't have a long talk about something he knew nothing about.

PJ, In my opinion, here's a guy who's been around long enough to know better than to let an unexpected occurrence bamboozle him like it did.

I'm still not seeing the connection you're making with the convo with Slive. CPF issued the statement from the Nashville UT alum event. I have yet to find any timeline saying he spoke to the commish prior to when he says he did.

The only thing we truly have to go on is CPF's statement and the word of some scared out of his mind process server on Finebaum. I've made my choice

Even if at first he didn't know what the paper was, after media member after media member asked him about it, it doesn't take a rocket scientist to realize something is up. Did it never enter his mind during the media sessions to get Bud Ford to look at the piece of paper to see what was on it?

Why should he? The media sessions are about football (you know, his job) and not that crap. He is smart enough to know that he could release a statement afterwards when he had actually read the piece of paper some cowardly server threw in his lap.

Im not a Fulmerite but what they did to CPF yesterday was classless. I actually think that Fulmer handled the subpoena thing pretty well under the circumstances, I know that I would be wanting to rip someone's head off. If Fulmer lied to the media who cares because its none of their damn business anyway.

In truth, he doesn't say he had the discussion in Nashville(or on the plane) either. Slive was in Birmingham, so I guess I jumped to the conclusion that the two spoke in Birmingham. If I'm wrong about that, OK.

Fulmer is being peppered with questions about a subpoena... On the way in, a guy by some accounts 'tosses' a piece of paper at CPF...Fulmer gives said paper to Bud Ford who puts it in his brief case....

When all the questions pop up, niether Fulmer nor Ford thinks to themselves...'hmmm, I wonder what that paper in the brief case is?'...

That's a leap for me.

If he honestly did not know, he still blew it by the manner he dealt with something he gets paid a bunch of money to handle better.

Why are we focusing on criticizing Fulmer? Remember, he was acting on spur of the moment... had much bigger things on his mind. When was the last time any of you had to go on stage before hundreds of people... moreover, hundreds of media outlets. When I'm getting ready to speak in front of a board with only 20 individuals, much less hundreds... I wouldn't pay much attention to some jerk-off tossing a piece of paper in my direction. How can you expect him to handle this matter perfectly on the fly?

Shouldn't the idiot bammer lawyers be the focus of our ire?

I don't think Fulmer is the greatest coach, and I've been plenty critical of him, but he is one of our own... and he's still guiding our beloved team in the '08 season. This whole mess has actually driven me to a greater support of the man.

I'd much rather be critical of how he manages the florida game than how he handles a ridiculous lawsuit from a delusional bammer.

Agree 100%.

So you admit he knew what it was...

I liked the video of him talking about it when he was fired up. hopefully he will get the team fired up for the barn and bama, and we will rip them a new one

To avoid looking stupid maybe? Everyone there knew what was on the parer but the person (CPF) it happened to. As you know not all media sessions are just about football, did you really expect media members to sit on this story and ask him about football because they weren't sure whether he read it or not?

BTW I'm not arguing it wasn't a cowardly move.

So you admit he knew what it was...

If nothing was said when the subpoena was served how would he? But it's not a lie if he remembered the piece of paper but had not read it and wasn't sure what it was. I have no doubt CPF could do the math but it's still the truth to say he did not know.

Yep :)

I actually think this helps our team down the road, and will give us even more motivation to win the SEC title.

I really hope this gives CPF and the team the spark that lights the fuse this year and they blow up and play some football with fire once again...We have not seen that fire out of a Tennessee team in a while and it is needed...I also think the stunt was classless but what do you expect from a Bama fan and its contingent...:td::the_finger:

Did they truly know or were they tipped off? Had they seen the actual paper he was handed? No, they just ran with it. I'm just saying a whole lot of people are making assumptions (maybe including myself) when the stories out there just don't support their conclusions. Could he have handled it differently? Sure but given the limited facts I see, I have no issue with what he actually did.

And my argument tying this behavior to the management of UT's football team was weak.....

at least mine uses the facts presented. If you see errors based the available docs please point them out

I couldn't have said it better!
