Pig Howard update per CBJ:

@patrickbrownTFP: Butch says nothing has changed regarding Pig Howard's status. 'I'm very very proud' of him, he said.

"I'm very proud of him for making it back on the team"

or

"I'm very proud of him for failing to meet the criteria to make it back on the team"

I'm gonna say good news.

Lol. Was focusing more on his statement that Pig's status hasn't changed.

That being said, just heard Butch say at Media Days that Pig is back on the team.

Proud of you Mr Howard...and anyone who is comfortable with the nickname pig must have a huge set of mountain oysters...BEST OF LUCK SIR!

Glad to have Pig back. Tough kid. It'll be great to have him add depth behind Pearson and Johnson in the slot.

Do you know for a fact that he is third on the depth chart at slot?

I don't. Did hear Hubbs kind of address this yesterday. Said if he does indeed return that he will find the competition at a much different level than last year. That being said, given that he brought all of this on himself by pretty much abandoning his teammates after the season and missing the entire spring, I wouldn't expect him to be 3rd on the depthchart at the moment....I'd expect him to start dead last behind every other slot WR we have.

I will say this, and it's just my opinion. I have no doubt that Pearson starts at Slot. Also, I heard Coach Z a couple weeks ago that Johnathan Johnson had a great Spring, perhaps the best of any of his slot WRs and that he was "his kinda player/guy".

I kinda assumed once he was back on the team he had paid his dues...

Based on talent/abiliity and experiance I find it hard to belive he is lower than 1st or 2nd at slot. That would be great though if we have two guys that are better than him

Paid his due to get back with the team does not mean jump everybody on depth chart. He lost that when he skipped practice and school. He will have to earn his playing time and right now he way behind for this year compared to others and we have more athletes so it won't be as easy to jump people based on talent.

Setting aside his "issues",which he apparently has worked through, you think a few players sit ahead of him at slot soley based upon ability/talent/experiance?

Pearson for sure, not close. I thought Johnson flashed well in limited time last year and, as I mentioned, Coach Z singled him out unsolicited in his interview with Ainge last week.

Not sure if Josh Smith is playing in the slot or not but Coach Z also mentioned him as doing very well and progressing a lot since last year....his hands were awful as a freshman, but he's bigger than Pig, a very talented athlete and I would argue just as fast (runs 4.5 iirc), runs great routes.

Pig will obviously be ahead of Wharton and Jenkins in terms of experience right now, but I think he's gonna be below them on the depth chart going into fall camp given his actions which led to him being dismissed from the team. Talent-wise, I don't know....Jenkins is bigger and stronger and I think people are underestimating just how explosive and fast Vic is.

I'm not sure who else we have working at slot. Just think given that Pig has a lot of work to do to climb back up the ladder and the talent that is now "ahead" of him is a lot different than it was last year when it was a given that he would be the starter.

Your position is that Pig doesn't deserve a spot above another receiver?

I don't know man, Josh Smith was brutally bad with drops last year, Pig would have had to really stagnated and Smith would have made up a lot of ground for their spots on the depth chart to switch. I mean if I'm Butch, I keep Pig in the slot just because Pig provides the always popular jet sweep option, do anything you can to keep defenses guessing.
