Pig Howard update per CBJ:

Tennessee Football ‏@Vol_Football 1m
JONES: Pig Howard, I just got off the phone with him. We have set some parameters that he has to meet, they are from our players …

Tennessee Football ‏@Vol_Football 55s
JONES: He will go before the 13-person player staff & they will meet with him and make a decision. It’s an honor & privilege to play at UT.

BOOOoOm!!!!!

As much as I want him back I was shocked by something in the article that said Pig "balked" at the notion one of the parameters was he had to stay in Knoxville for the mini-mester. I would think, or hope, that would be a no brainer and that he would want to do nothing BUT stay to work with others who are staying especially after missing the spring. The fact he "balked" at that makes me wonder about his attitude and/or dedication.

So let me get this straight: We now have a PLAYER committee that decides if another player is following the academic straight and narrow? THAT is a change--Jones truly is a change agent! What will we hear next--that a QB is majoring in engineering?!

You have me rolling right now. I like you. :eek:lol:

Are you suggesting that the current arrangement where a young talented athlete, who earns a scholarship and is provided a free education and many, many perks and benefits in exchange for competing in athletics on behalf of his/her university, is akin to slavery?

Yes. American slaves deserve reparations because they were given the best education, food, clothing, stipends, travel, and connections/training for future riches. Didn't you know?

Guess you arent going to be owning an NBA franchise any time soon eh?

Sorry. I was using sarcasm to say that American slaves had it bad, and it's a bit disrespectful to what they actually endured to compare them to the conditions of NCAA athletes.

Players always want good players on their team.

LSU let the team vote on Jeremy Hill last year after he skipped workouts and got arrested twice. He was let back on the team.

If this is solely in the players hands now, expect Pig to be reinstated shortly

So r we still on this being about academics?? I find it hard to believe that putting an academics related punishment in the hands of other athletes. Non-academic related one is a different story.

Also...I find it interesting how just a few yrs back this type of tweeting about a players future with the team would have been considered being "thrown on the bus". Another reason why I have problems believing it's an academics issue cause wouldn't it be illegal to be advertising that a student is doing so bad academically in the way this has been???

The phrase is 'under the bus'.

I haven't seen any advertising.

Alton had some things he needed to do and he evidently is close to completion.

Don't really care what it is. I'm just wondering how it could be academic issues the way it's being discussed so willy nilly by CBJ. Something that would have had this place crying years ago about how inappropriate it is tweeting about a players personal stuff. Classic VN.

Being discussed so willy nilly by CBJ? How and when? All I've heard him say, when the question has been asked about Pig's status, is that he has certain criteria he has to meet, Pig knows what it is, he has done everything asked of him so far and if he successfully attends mini term in May and if the "accountability panel" made up of leaders on the team recommend that he be reinstated, then he likely will be. Succinct, short on specifics, respectful of Pig, yet providing enough information that fans can understand the process in place. I missed the willy nilly part.

I missed it too, but I am happy to see WILLY NILLY being used in a post on VN. Don't throw him on the bus for that.
