Players Don't Get Dismissed for Misdemeanors

Possession of a firearm with an altered serial number is a felony in the state of Tennessee. Whether any charges are reduced, dropped, etc. remains to be determined.

Thanks for playing.

Looks like you changed the game you were playing when he won.

Guns = felony...remember?

I've got 7 felonies in my house right now if that is the case, but as the player said, that is not the law.

Oh my, ever heard of context?

LOL... I'm well aware that guns, in and of themselves, are not illegal in the United States. However, you can't go riding around with an unregistered firearm with the serial numbers filed off.

If you ever decided to take your "7 felonies" on a joyride, and didn't have a permit to carry a concealed weapon/handgun carry permit, you'd find yourself in some legal trouble as well.

As a matter of fact, the Supreme Court recently ruled that the right to keep and bear arms is an "individual right." That wasn't always the case.

C'mon... use some common sense and, above all, comprehension.

I comprehended what you posted perfectly well. You posted guns = felonies. You back-pedal better than when you were in college.

Actually, the right to keep and bear arms was always an individual right. The Supreme Court merely recognized it as such recently. The ruling didn't say "In 2009, the 2nd amendment right to keep and bear arms transformed into an individual right". They found that the 2nd Amendment, as drafted in the late 1700s was to be an individual right.

In other words, they confirmed what the NRA has been saying all along.

Just like the KNS is confirming what I have been saying all along about today's incident. Misdemeanors all around. So, regardless of whatever context you were hoping would save your face, in this case guns didn't equal felony in any way, shape, or form.

Looks like I'm not the one with the comprehension problem.

Regardless wether it is a felony or a misdemeanor....these players should not have been out with marijuana and a gun in a car running around. I love to win games as much as any VOL....but Pearl needs to make some examples....show players that the University is not going to put with actions such as these.

You need balls and integrity to do that. Our School, athletic programs, and coaches don't have either.

What Pearl "needs" to do first is gather the facts. If all 4 were involved to some degree, then I agree each should be punished according to their actions. If you mean dismissal, then that is a different story.

It is beyond idiotic to kick players off the team for this type of behavior. If that is the standard, a lot of major college players would be flipping burgers. Florida started a guy at DE tonight who was so drunk that he he passed out behind his steering wheel.

If Fulmer followed this standard, we don't have a 1998 national title because Jamal Lewis would have been gone, Travis Henry would have been gone, and Shaun Ellis would have been gone.

If Fulmer followed this approach last year, Arian Foster would have been kicked off the team. The list would go on and on and on.

In fact, Peyton Manning's career would have ended at UT. Exposing your bare backside in front of a female is also a crime.

Every athlete who fails a drug test would be dismissed. Surely getting caught by the police isn't the defining factor. Just by failing the test proves a crime has been committed.

What behavior? Oh, you mean drinking and driving, carrying illegal firearms and firearms, and smoking weed? Yea, would be pretty dumb to kick them off for that?:ermm: Wait, let's take a step back. Maybe it was the person who had the rental car before them that left it all in there. My oh my. What our fan base has stooped to.:banghead2:

Some of our naive fans make me want to :swoon3:

You get dismissed for misdemeanors involving pot when you've already failed 3+ drug tests which might deal with at least 2 of these guys. I know 1 for sure, but I'm not positive on the rest.

You said GUNS=FELONY

Had you said, Possession of a firearm with an altered serial number=FELONY you would have won.

But, you didn't. YOU LOSE.

Thanks for playing.

You're right. Obviously, I was saying that simply owning a gun makes you a felon. My mistake was thinking that mental midgets could read between the lines.

As long as I've been reading VolNation, I should've known. Next time, I'll spell everything out for you since, after all, you can't do it yourself.

That is absolutely what you said. Remember?

Am I supposed to look at "GUNS=FELONY" on a message board and say, "Oh that silly Gannon Goodson. Of course he must have meant to say, CARRYING A FIREARM WITH A FILED OFF SERIAL NUMBER=FELONY"?

Not a mind reader, Cheif.

Okay folks......how many of you got out driving around as teenagers drinking???? Well I did. I am not saying it is right, but they are young and dumb. If they don't learn from this experience........then let's deal with them but at this point and time let the police, judges, coaches......etc do their job.

in ONE YEAR the University of Tennessee campus has had SEVEN NCAA INFRACTIONS, ONE ONGOING INVESTIGATION IN RECRUITING VIOLATIONS, 7 PLAYERS ARRESTED CHARGED WITH ROBBERY, OPEN CONTAINERS, WEAPONS, ILLEGAL WEAPONS, DRUGS, ECT....

You think this all goes without notice by the NCAA?

There are serious problems inside that department. Serious.

I smell Troll!

I hate it when people try to say, "they are just kids, and kids do this kind of stuff." Well, it's still unacceptable!
Also, your typical kid who does something like this isn't going to school for free. As a UT graduate who will still be paying his loans for another ten years...I say that this junk is sickening.
I wonder if these kids just never experienced privilege before in their lives, and now that they have it, they just can't handle it.

Pretty common thing with a lot of recruits in major sports. Just look at where a lot of these guys are coming from. Lower income areas, rough, maybe one or no parents, gangs, blah blah blah

When they actually get things, they just don't know what to do with it, and push it too far.

None of the four players charged is a teenager. Smith is 23, Williams and Goins are 22, and Tatum is 21. They don't get to use the teenager excuse.

Haha! Like I said, "Cheif," I'll make sure to spell things out for you next time. (Judging by your grammar, you're in need of more help than I previously imagined.)

You don't need to be a "mind reader" to use common sense.
