Either way. You lost all credibility when you attacked @preacherman20. Just saying.
the guy that Doesn’t count a recruited walk on as a member of his sons program until they make the 40man?

Pitching staff will be interesting in 2024. Burns gone, Fanning to NC State, Dolly, Halvy, Lindsey, Joyce, Jenkins, and Fitz take the draft, a few others left for lower level schools (wouldn’t have pitched anyway), and Cam hung up the cleats.
Yes we picked up some, but seems like the pitching staff got decimated.
Well technically if they don't make the team then they aren't on the team. I can guarantee you everyone of the players involved have heard the word no before. It's not always a bad thing. You figure many things out hearing that word. Don't like it, get better. Simple.the guy that Doesn’t count a recruited walk on as a member of his sons program until they make the 40man?

But so is most everyone else who’s worth a damn. I’m not against your premise that it’s bad optics, a little on the harsh side etc. my issue is that you say this is a CTV and UT thing; it’s a “serious, baseball program” thing. In 2021 and 2022 he took 16 and 17, respectively, that was in line with everyone else in the SEC. I don’t care what 2024 and forward look like cause it’ll likely change between now and then on it’s own.I’ve always said I think there is a difference between oversigning by 5 per class and by 10 per class. Tv is always on the high end
BUT as long as the NCAA has their head in the ass and don’t change the rules I don’t blame him. I just won’t support it

I mean the way I envision it is: CTV has 5 guys that he has been recruiting and think have potential to earn a walk-on spot. He tells those 5 guys that he likes them and could see them earning a spot on the roster but there are only 3 available spots. In this scenario I’m assuming he’s being up front with them about the available spots up for grabs, and that they have a chance, but are not guaranteed to earn one of them. Whether they take that chance or choose to sign with another team is up to them. I’m not sure if that’s how it actually works at this level bc baseball recruiting is so much different than any other sport.Well technically if they don't make the team then they aren't on the team. I don’t disagree with much of that
The issue I have is baseball isn’t like football or hoops. When next fall hits and there are 55 players most kids with have no idea who is on what scholarship and who isn’t. They won’t be able to differentiate and that’s why it’s wrong to treat some of the kids as if they ain’t there
11.7 isn't cutting it, I agree. How are the kids that don't make the roster supposed to be treated? I'm guessing they are treated fine, other than not told yes. It's not a perfect world. If they handle it correctly in most cases they will be better for it.
Yes but calling them “cuts” (in a negative connotation), in order to smear a coach’s recruiting strategy isn’t fair either. There are two side to every coin and I can see a bit of both of y’all’s arguements.Agreed
And I am fine with that for sure….
BUT all 5 of those kids and their families need to be welcomed by the entire program!!

But they know coming in there’s a chance they get cut so what’s the harm in cutting them from UT’s standpoint? Not the NCAA hold tight BS standpoint; I agree with you on allowing them to transfer mid-year. These kids are 18 and their parents are 40+, I hope they can do math. “40 spots total of which 32 are scholarships minus 20 players returning minus 21 commits minus 25 commits in class after me; oh **** folks are getting left out”. The decision and gamble is theirs. Tony or any other coach isn’t forcing them to commit, enroll and show up for the Fall. It’s a choice that comes with undeniable, tangible, fairly visible risks so they all know what they’re getting into. If they don’t then they haven’t asked the right questions throughout the process or talked to the right folks outside the program. These kids have played travel ball since they’re 8, they’re used to the cutthroat world of competitive baseball….or they’re used to being the stud and not facing adversity until now and it’s likely a good thing they get a dose.it’s clear to those kids and their families they didn’t make the cut.
I call a spade a spade.
it’s the harsh reality of what’s allowed in D1 baseball

Bruin, this thread is to track player portal activity and rumors. If you want to continue to argue about the system and talk about walk-ons and your other irritations with the system or the staff, then start another thread to do so. Thanks.it’s clear to those kids and their families they didn’t make the cut.
