Portal Activity (News and Rumors)

Bruin, this thread is to track player portal activity and rumors. If you want to continue to argue about the system and talk about walk-ons and your other irritations with the system or the staff, then start another thread to do so. Thanks.

Will do
the same for others …

Pitching should be fine. To your point made in an earlier post, several of the guys you mentioned had minimal innings anyway. A couple pickups in the portal and a few young guys will step up that didn’t get their chance this year. They are good pitchers or they wouldn’t be there. Wyatt evans back, etc. Looks like the team will definitely be better from the left side. That was the main weakness this year, not enough lefties.

And to your point (and mine) the guys that didn’t get their chance this year (Jenkins, Joyce, Fitz, Fanning)….are now gone. Not sure the guys that didn’t get their chance in’23 are the answer for ‘24.

Another way to look at it is this, the starters typically go deep, not much need for a lot of relievers/closers. Pretty much replacing Halvy, Russell (who moves into a starter role), Burns, and…Cam? Who replaces them? Evans, Zander, Combs…portal?

If I had a son who was a pitcher I’d want him to go to TN or Wake

I’m pretty sure Wake enjoys the need based aid that vandy gets
they have finally figured out how to capitalize on that advantage

And I’d love to hear how that pitching lab is cutting edge stuff

Excuse my ignorance, but I know they had a great staff this year. Do they have a history of developing quality pitchers?

Very short term but dang this class was exceptional

They have a female running their pitching lab and I want to study that

I’m not sure their history is all that amazing (frankly wasn’t big into college baseball until some of my best friends played a few years ago and followed them closely), but from I’ve been told they have made MAJOR investments into developing their pitchers and baseball program as a whole. They’re super ahead of the trend in a lot of scientific areas. To the point MLB teams are copying them

*he and his team have changed their minds like 4 times in the last 4 months about where he will be playing next year so we will see
Disclaimer: Assuming his credits transfer and they offer his major.
