Portal Activity (News and Rumors)

Do not know Tony V personally but if what people who do know him tell me is accurate I guarantee he’s put a ton of thought into it.

But at the end of the day, he really trusts Frank to do his thing with the pitchers and doesn’t wanna mess with it too much. Easy to understand why given how good they are as a pitching staff every year

When the burns rumors hit I posted I expected him to stay and FA retire. Of course I was wrong now but I can’t see him coaching many more years

With Burns off the board to WF, LSU may throw a big bag at Holman. I know that AZ pitcher entered the portal and is likely to LSU, but I'm sure they're looking to solidify their starting rotation as well. I doubt we outbid them, so hopefully NIL isn't a deciding factor for him. Hopefully Beam being in his ear helps us here.

as negative as I can be ….

I’ll say this …

I think Drew Beam needs to be the Face of this program. He needs to be the ad on Time Square. He’s all that’s good about college baseball

With that said I think he gives us a good shot here

This post deserved a like, but ftr, I felt dirty giving Bruin a like.

Agreed. We’ll see how it shakes out. Things seem to be the opposite of what I assume lately haha!

We are talking about 1 year ….

With that said I know what some of our “middle” range football kids are getting in NIL and i can see a Friday/Saturday type SEC arm getting well into 6 figures for one year.

So in this landscape of college athletes I say pay the dude

Nothing is decided but I actually feel good about the vols with Holman. Get the first visit and it comes after Beam is in his ear for two straight weeks

I’m pretty sure Wake enjoys the need based aid that vandy gets
they have finally figured out how to capitalize on that advantage

And I’d love to hear how that pitching lab is cutting edge stuff

We know how much you like the private school system, picking back up where you left off.

Excuse my ignorance, but I know they had a great staff this year. Do they have a history of developing quality pitchers?
The Braves took Jared Shuster in the 1st round in 2020 and Ryan Cusick in the 1st round in 2021. They had 5 pitchers taken in this past draft including Rhett Lowder at 7th overall in the 1st round. They've had some good recent success.

I think when they are cut(don’t make the 40man) they should be able to go to another D1 school and play immediately. The same way as a JC or NAIA

that’s one way they are pooped on by the ncaa

Well, if they get cut after fall ball and transfer to a mid-major, let’s say, then the mid-major has to cut someone even later on the calendar in order to make room for them (if they want to make room). Somebody is always going to get left without a seat when the music stops.

I’m interested in having this discussion just to better understand how roster management works in SEC baseball, but ultimately I think everybody coming into these programs understands (or should understand — and I would agree that it is incumbent on the coaching staffs to help make sure that they do understand) that cuts will be made, and a sense of where the staff thinks they are likely to end up when that dust settles. If they still choose to come out and try to make the team, that’s their choice — and it may not even be a bad one.

Did Bruin play college baseball. Just wondering why he has an opinion on here that may or may not carry any weight.
