is it a disgruntled player or family member? Is your source biased? I would bet they are.I’m speaking of 1:1 communication and feedback. Whether you’re a starter, riding the bench, or get occasional time, it’s not happening. Whether you believe that or not, doesn’t really matter to me. I feel pretty good with my source.
Last thing on Burns because it’s kind of overplayed at this point.. it’s really as simple as this:
Burns/his agent want to start every game next year because it is better for his draft stock. V and FA would love to have Burns back and would have started him, but were never going to guarantee him anything because that’s just not how they operate. And therein lies the problem and why Burns is now at another school (I’m guessing one that has promised him the Friday night job). He had been moved to the pen once before (which was 100% the right call by TV/FA) and so they didn’t trust that it wouldn’t happen again
“Some times people forget that communication is a two-way street”I can only speak to my son but he has great communication with Frank, Tony, Que, and Elander. I would say that daily he has a conversation with multiple coaches and staff. Maybe, whoever you are talking to is not a good communicator. When we do the podcast, all of the young men speak very highly of the coaching staff and we have interviewed almost every starter on last year's team. They all talk about having the best coaching staff in the nation. If they could not communicate, then it would have come out. Some times people forget that communication is a two-way street. I would think that most people have communication with others if they want feedback. I cannot believe that the coaching staff does not talk to their players. Even this summer when he is not on campus daily he is still talking to the coaching staff and leadership.
Burns was a good freshman starter, but not as a sophomore. Some guys are actually better coming out of the pen after the game starts, and not mentally suited for a starter role. I've seen a lot of starters drafted only to learn in the pros that they're better off as a reliever. It'll be interesting to see what happens at WF. Will he struggle as a starter like he did last year? I wouldn't be surprised at all.
His problem might stem from the fact that he has only two good pitches - slider and FB. Both of them are very good, but a starter really needs three. Maybe a change-up. So, it could be that his arsenal is not really starter stuff. Could be that the SEC hitters just caught up with him.
Well said…and I’ve said this before, and it’s hard to believe for a lot of fans, but the communication from the coaches to the players was lacking. That led to the exit of a lot of players IMO.
I don’t believe that for a minute. You don’t recruit at elite levels and sustain success like this staff has without excellent communication skills. Lack of playing time led to movement in the portal. Plus, I’m sure Burns was told he would be a starter (as that was the original intention but its a fluid situation), however he didn’t perform and it was best for the team to move him to bullpen.
Staff would lose the team (and ultimately their jobs) if they allowed players to dictate their positions. Coaches make team decisions, and some players aren’t happy with those decisions. They are free to look for another opportunity. I’m certainly glad that Lipscomb, Ortega, Lawson, and Scott didn’t…
Burns might have wanted a little more explanation than he got? I am sure Vitello and Anderson had more than a few minutes in explaining their reason. I think Burns knew why he went to the pen and so did everyone else. Vitello is very aware about making sure those players know the “why” part to what he does. That was a huge move, and one which Burns had to understand but just didn’t like.
All I know is one of my best friends played for V and absolutely loved the guy. Still keeps in touch with him even though he’s no longer on the team. So I have to say that I doubt that there’s a lack of communication, but I only know one guy so who knowsI’m speaking of 1:1 communication and feedback. Part of it is who else starts if you take both out? Dollander did get moved off Friday. The other part is that Dollander was not getting rocked nearly as bad as burns was. Something had to be done, and Tony and Frank did it and it worked tremendously. If it wasn’t want Burns wanted or what he wanted to hear then that’s unfortunate for him, but they don’t just coach chase Burns they coach a team of 40 young men.I’ve thought about that, too. The only reason I see is that Burns was getting rocked and Dollander was off, but not as off. Who knows.
His 3rd and 4th pitches were absolutely filthy down the stretch.Burns was a good freshman starter, but not as a sophomore. Exactly and I believe this is exactly what is happening here. Tony and Frank felt they did right by Burns, but burns felt like he didn’t get communicated with enough or told the wrong things blah blah blah. At the end of the day I think it’s just that burns didn’t hear what he wanted to hear and that’s where things got overblown“Some times people forget that communication is a two-way street”
Exactly! Anyone who is married and/or has kids has learned this lesson the hard way. “What I said” vs “what they heard” is sometimes MILES apart.
I could bring a few baseballs into my lab and call it a pitching lab if it would help?
Sure! We obviously need all the help we can get. This is what I think we need to do…
Some kind of slingshot contraption that helps them over the hurdle from mid 90’s to high 90’s.
A six week old baby(might need more than one) so we can show em what life COULD really be like. A home plate the size a dollar bill folded and a drunk frat guy to play the part of “Blue” ( might as well get used to it), Finally, a former field goal kicker at the NFL level for mental health.
Feel free to come up with your own ideas, I’m gonna turn my attention to a new project…Shortstop Lab!
