Portal Activity (News and Rumors)

Of course you disagree with the universally accepted opinion. Shocking revelation.

Still, as a coach of a major university athletics program, you can think those things and it's fine. You might even say them in private or "off the record". You vocalize them publicly and it is extremely unprofessional the same way it would be for your boss to say it about you if you left for another job. That isn't really debatable.
To be fair, I could see many VN posters saying the exact same thing about Bruin should he choose to leave....

glad he's gone: "Matter of fact, a lot of them feel like we're going to be better without him and the attitude he showed at times."

I respect the high road

But also the low

Honestly, if UT doesn’t get him, it’s not the end of the world. He has SEC experience, yes. But his SEC numbers as a whole are not lights out. ERA 4.60 and k/bb ratio isn’t great. 39k to 21bb. Those are things that can be improved for sure if he ends up in Knoxville. Would be a solid get, no doubt. But not the end of the world if not. Just my opinion.
He’s a first rounder next year, so he’d definitely be a great addition. He allows you to only introduce one guy without college starting experience, and allows you one more very talented arm for the bullpen.

You’re right though even if they somehow don’t land him, they’re still going to be very good

May have an impact on his recruiting efforts as well. Can’t imagine that will escape the radar of potential recruits and their parents.

I see it the opposite. It helps explain the portal in a way that spins a positive for your program

“The portal is now apart of college baseball. You may have seen my comments about a kid that left our program. He was a good player but our kids didn’t enjoy him as a teammate and he hurt the program. We are committed to getting the best fit and believe we now have a very close knit group of kids. Getting rid of the bad apple was unfortunately part of what we needed to do to get better. We know you will only add to the good thing we have going now”

It's almost as if you were writing a letter to Freak about yourself. I especially liked the "getting rid of the bad apple was unfortunately what we needed to do to get better" part. Kudos.

You’re still not convincing me that calling a former student athlete a bad teammate and a bad apple is a winning strategy in recruiting. Just sounds like whining to me.

Notice your least favorite person in the world Tony Vitello wished Burns well after he entered the portal and is selling the idea of “following in Burns footsteps” to Luke Holman per VQ.

I said I respect the high road like TV took but I also respect standing up for his remaining kids that apparently applauded the bad apple leaving

To be fair TV has plenty of equity build up in the PR department while the ASU staff doesn’t

Agreed that’s why I get upset when coaches aren’t loyal to players

Lol. So, in your dream scenario, no coach ever takes another job and stays at one location his entire career and no player ever transfers even if it means they never play a second in their 4-year career. Seems very reasonable.

In my dream scenario coaches have to keep their players for 4 years if they handle their business off the field

If a coach leaves the players should then be able to leave

If not the portal isn’t an option unless serious circumstances

That is equal parts utopian and ridiculous. You did call it a dream, though. Dream big, I guess.

Without the ability to transfer, we wouldn’t even know the names Baker Mayfield, Tyler Murray or Joe Burrow.

That would be a disservice to each of them and college football fans every where.
