No knock on Brooks at all because he came up huge so much, but the athletic disparity at S has been an issue all year.
It's the reason our young linebackers have looked so bad in coverage. They're being asked to do too much because of our deficiencies at safety. Folks need to lay off the linebackers...they're young, talented, and that group is just getting deeper with the recruits coming in. The issue is at safety.

It's both

And many of those players have already transferred out....

And that's the rub.

We don't know what we have in those young players, we don't appear to be developing enough of them, especially at some specific positions.

If those guys aren't good enough you bring in guys that are....... But we seem to be willing to let some of them walk instead of developing........ And replace them with who exactly? Why now, go with youth? When you would have been better served to do that this past year and have these young receivers develop along with your young QB?

It may not have come together for them this season but you'd be optimistic going into next year. At this point it kind of looks like we'll be starting over next year with question marks all over the roster.

I mean that's not entirely true...

11-2
9-4
10-3

The last 3 seasons and making the playoffs this year... we're obviously developing a good bit of the talent we're getting.

But there is still a talent gap between the top 6 teams and everyone else. This year on the road against Georgia and Ohio State it was very clear.

I mean he did not play up to any of the hype. Yes he was good. How many times this year you see him miss a sack? Way too many. And at any point did he take over any games. No. Reggie white did. That’s an elite d lineman. Derek Barnett = elite. He would finish those sacks every time.

But yea it does still stand. It was a brutal slap in the face of reality after last night with what team and talent we really have.
Pearce wasn’t very good this year.

Need upgrades at OL, WR, LB, and S. Those were the weakest groups all year. LBs will grow but they’re too slow. Both of those units on defense killed our defense once they got exposed a bit.
Carter is fast but needs to improve vastly on being in the right position. Too often jumping into wrong gap on run defense and out of position on pass defense. Doesn’t look behind enough to see receivers running right behind

I'm not trying to be hyperbolic but the way I see it is big question marks at the following positions:

On offense:

WR- lose a lot and what we had was honestly mediocre, but if the young guys couldn't earn reps.......
Interior O line- break in new center and we lose a guard too don't we?
Tackles- our tackles were not good at all this year. Get one back break in another......
RB -not as worried about this one as I think our scheme makes things easier for our backs..... But still unproven and durability are a concern

On defense:

Safety- big concern
Linebacker- we have some talent but no depth
Edge- we feasted last year against some inferior opponents but they disappeared against teams with decent lines...... Not sure this is the strength everyone thought it was. Lose our best guy.

That's a lot of question marks and unknowns, hopefully young recruits step up to him the void but that typically means a curve in season.

This is the weird thing today with portal & NIL.

RG took a chance on Jenkins and developed him for 3 seasons and the year after he finally starts contributing he's bailing to get a bigger bag. Maybe it's just about playing closer to home...

But if anything that shows that DL will be fine here's a few names we've not seen really yet

Emmanuel Okoye - 6'5" 243lbs, RS-FR
Carson Gentle - 6'3" 250lbs, FR
Nathan Robinson - 6'6" 295lbs, RS-FR
Kellen Lindstrom - 6'5" 240lbs, FR
Daevin Hobbs - 6'4" 300lbs, SO
Tyree Weathersby - 6'5" 272lbs, RS-FR
Jamal Wallace - 6'3" 317lbs, Junior (but was a JuCo guy so might get a year or two back)

Still got a lot of young talent on that DL that saw plenty of action this year with our rotation. That's not even including the EDGE guys and the incoming players.

Adding Campbell, Dye, Utley, Loftin, House in this class too.

Because RG is our best coach and develops as well as recruits at a high level DL will never be a concern for me personally with him here.

And that’s a good place to start. It’s still CRIMINAL that Ellarbe can’t get his own recruits to start through development.
Yeah, if they get them 2 I’d give them an A.

But , projected starters, where’s the recruits we should have developed?

I still dont know if getting an A will be good enough to have a really good line for a change.

Pearce wasn’t very good this year.

Based on what exactly?

Despite being the MAIN focus of blocking every week he made 11 more total tackles while having one of the highest pressure rates in all of college. And if ya watched the games he was also the most held pass rusher BY FAR this year.
