I kind of agree. There shouldn't be rumors a coach is getting fired. The coach should just get fired.Look I hate being the Debbie Downer here, but is the current state of affairs truly the idea that Heupel (a man who has proven to be excessively loyal) is firing Pope and, before pulling that trigger, has already agreed to hire another position coach just so he’ll bring along two transfers? That feels like an awfully huge stretch.
What I’ve heard from an agent friend:
- MM got bumped from $500k to $800k
- The receivers did not like Pope, leading to some of the transfer attrition
- Pope is out
- MM will return
That’s all I’ve heard
good and contributing are different things, but none the less, thorton did make a huge improvement in year two and led the nation in YPC this year. There is literally no reason not to expect Brazzell to also make a leapBrazzell and Thornton were both huge disappointments. There is not 2nd year fix or whatever people like to parrot around here.
Bru Payton Tillman Velus all were good year 1 in the system. Hyatt just exploded and caused this trope.
I had to look him up. He’s been with Lincoln Riley since OU, so you assume he and Heup have ties there. But he started at Texas Tech under Leach, who Heupel obviously had a relationship. Interesting.
To be fair, USC was already in the gutter. But yes he did destroy OklahomaLincoln Riley has the distinction of being the only head coach I can remember to destroy 2 "blueblood" programs back to back in OU and USC...
If Coach Hype thinks their WR coach is an upgrade though, lets get him and Branch! I trust CJH to make the right decision regardless. Thanks for the info about the WR coach bud.
Is this a credible insider? When I questioned dascoop I was crucified, so I’m hesitant! What I’ve heard from an agent friend:
