Martinez

Never seen a fanbase want to get rid of a coach so bad and couldn't tell you why haha. Fire the guy who just made Jermod McCoy an All-American.
Is this a joke? Let’s not pretend like McCoy was some unknown 2* that Martinez coached up. Our CBs have been bad since he has been here. He should have been fired last year. He has one decent year and all of a sudden you get posts like yours 🙄🙄.

I disagree. Having a staff dedicated to recruiting is one thing; it’s proven to help with recruiting. But removing the on-field position coaches from recruiting is a bad idea.

I doubt very many players would be enticed to come to a school when they barely know the position coach. The primary recruiters have to be on-field coaches.
Agree, the way I understood this is the GM and his staff would narrow down the thousands of HS recruits to a more manageable number thus not wasting coaches time and effort.
Coaches often talk about spending days even weeks on the recruiting trail away from home and family. I see this as help for the coaches not a replacement. Sort of like all the ”O & D anaylists” coaching staffs have added to help with game plans and such.

They’ve made it clear they value knowledge over athleticism.

That will work vs teams that are playing at a talent deficit. It falls apart vs teams with real athletes on the other side.

It does no good to know “where to be”, if one lacks the athletic ability to get there “in time”.
A busted assignment (in coverage or gap responsibility) by a safety results in a huge chunk play. Probably a TD. That is why. You can clean up mistakes by the front 7. There is nobody to clean up an assignment mistake by a safety. And they set the calls for the secondary. Safety and MLB are not where you want to have players that don't know the defense well. Obviously ideally you build depth to the point that you have experienced AND athletic ability at those spots.

That Johnson kid would be the biggest idiot to transfer here for his final season. If we’re just getting a depth guy, go find a freshman.

Nah. The idea is you want someone experienced to split time. Ideally someone that has experience pass blocking and is an asset in the passing game. Basically, we need another Jabari Small/Ty Chandler type of RB.

Gibson was pretty dang good also. Martinez is the main reason McCoy ended up here. So the guy that recruited both of those guys and developed both of them. That’s the guy you want to run off?
Martinez has been fired by Georgia and Tennessee already. We would improve the second he’s fired by us again.

he was actually a pretty unknown 2 star though

Safety is def really bad

i do believe Farooq will be a good one but no clue about the other safety spot.
It’s fascinating how we view the safety position. We all thought Jaylen McCullough was slow, lacking in athleticism, and generally not good. Then he signs with the Rams and plays meaningful snaps for a playoff team. Do we really know what we are talking about?

No, it’s all just a bunch of sh*t talking. If anybody here knew what they were talking about they’d be coaches.

So if a player is good (a former 3* recruit, no less), “ he was going to be an All American no matter what.” But if he isn’t good, that’s the coach’s fault. Couldn’t be that the player just isn’t good.

How convenient for the critics.

Nobody thought McCoy would be this good. Nobody. But admitting that totally destroys your narrative.
As I stated. Mod was going to be an AA anywhere he went. Watch his true freshman tape at Oregon state. WR turned CB first year. Really good.

We need someone who can recruit better and develop better. CWM is a good coach. But we can do better. Why can’t both be true?

Went and looked at a few of SDSU’s games on ESPN, noticed they had another RB with the last name Johnson. Wonder if they are related.

Angel Johnson:
- 646 rushing yards
- 176 receiving yards
- 4 TDs

Amar Johnson:
- 1222 rushing yards
- 233 receiving yards
- 15 TDs
