'25 Portal Thread

There's random insiders that drive by all the time to drop information. Being on here for 5+ years, there’s been multiple instances where someone will drop a nug, then AP/Hubbs confirms it.

OK, that isn't the same thing as what you were saying. What other school's have recruiting sites and have insiders with paid subscribers that are leaking targets not currently in the portal?

On Jefferson, I know nuance isn’t an accepted tactic here, but here’s my position. He is an excellent raw athlete. In HS he was fast, ran great routes and was very physical. He was recruited by top ten programs in two sports. I really wanted us to sign him. Saban thought so much of him that he personally visited him in the eleventh hour to get his commitment. He had two minor surgeries last year. He missed a lot of Summer practices. He missed some Fall practices. He was never in line for major playing time. He did not make a meaningful dent in the stat line because he didn’t play. Of the WR’s that did play, two caught balls for over 300 yards. One is Williams, the other is a junior. Other Freshmen did make it on the field because they put in their time. None of them made a big difference. Had Jefferson been healthy, I think reasonable people believe he would’ve gotten mop up catches like the other Freshmen not named Williams. I’m still excited about his potential. If you’re not, that’s ok. I’ll actually still be excited about his potential if he doesn’t play this year. Not every kid progresses at the same rate. See Hyatt. That said, I actually think he will contribute this year. In fact, I’ll go out on a limb and say that Matthews, Staley and Jefferson will all be receivers worth recruiting. They are all very fast, cut well, take contact and CATCH. They were all a part of Heupel advocating for this type of receiver. I really wanted those three guys last year to all sign. I’m still a believer in Jefferson now.

In instances like this, I wonder if AP and VQ in general are told directly by people at UT not to put names out there so it doesn't become public who they're targeting and reaching out to till things have progressed to a certain point? Everything I've ever head is that Heupel is pretty secretive/plays things close to the vest, even by CFB head coach standards.

It probably isn't the case, but it's at least worth considering. VQ has had their head up UT's a** for so long and have been a mouthpiece for them for years, so it wouldn't shock me if something like this is the case.

Either way, AP and the rest of VQ have a significant attitude and entitlement problem.
Brent Hubbs is a longtime employee of the Vol Network and is well liked. He uses his connections but not enough to jeopardize anything that needs to be withheld for a bit. I was on VQ years and years ago. People used to criticize the journalism, too, but Hubbs is not a journalist. He is a radio guy who early on, had a great idea to start a fan site. It’s made him a bunch of money.

I don’t know about AP, but I never got the sense Hubbs thought he was entitled. They used to get the same questions over and over, and sometimes, they simply can’t report what they may know. They won’t ruin a guy’s moment.

You posted this as if Jefferson will be a Vol.

You putting in a crystal ball? 10 out of 10 confidence?

I’ve genuinely never understood this, nor really buy it.

“Oh we better not let them know who UT is targeting, could hurt them” like bro…chances are a lot of teams have heard of the kid and doing the same thing we are.

“Oh it might drive up the price” again like AP, Hubbs, and many others have said, a lot of these things are done behind the scenes so the price is going up regardless if we mention their name publicly.

“There name isn’t in the portal yet” then why is Bama, Auburn, FL, Texas, etc, etc. all telling their paid subscribers who targets are before they enter?

Just ********. Put my fries in the bag AP.

Agree but seems like since the Vol twitter conspiracy dropped about Vol club that they’re doing everything possible to keep the fan base from going ultra negative. Wouldn’t be surprised if doing the staff a solid on that.

Hey guys, there’s people we’re interested in but I’m gonna keep it a secret even though I’m paid to share info because unless they visit and it’s reported elsewhere then there’s no reason to discuss it even though the sole purpose of this platform is to talk about stuff.

9.95 please lolololol
You’ve almost nailed it. Make it more condescending and obnoxious.

Might be time to switch to an Indica....

Before he left, I heard he was coming here. I shared that then. I haven’t heard anything new, positive or negative.
Got you down for a crystal ball to Tennessee, 11 out of 10 confidence. If it doesn’t happen, aspersions shall be cast in your direction. Hurtful ones. You’ll be sad.

I never said you did…

And of course not, you haven’t looked. You’re poking your chest out trying to get some likes.

I visit the Bama and UGA boards fairly regularly. I've never visited an Oregon board. I don't ever see anything posted or copy from another site about UGA or Bama being involved in a player not currently in the portal.

Again, I am asking you to show you're work. You made the claim. Back it up.

Saban did him dirty. Gave him that personal attention to get his commitment, then retired on him.
