He’s not saying he doesn’t know what’s going on? He’s saying we are talking to people. But it’s not serious enough to post names because if he does and we don’t get them y’all will go all nega vol. for someone the coaches might not even take. So instead of spread panic, nothing is certain.
Geez grown men are worse then my daughters cheer squad
See, you screwed up when you said, "grown men". Big mistake in here :) :) :) :)

I think we're just going to have to be happy with our coaches looking for hidden diamonds. I don't expect any big names.
This is the right approach imo. Not "hidden diamonds" per se but optimizing for value. Give me culture and smart spending with the money you have. Norman-Lott & Jermod McCoy were game changers on one of the best defenses in the country, but the money we spent on them likely wouldn't get you half a "big name" like Louisville, Colorado, Ole MIss, and Florida State (all watching the playoffs...) pulled in last offseason.

I'll grant there are Transfer Portal Darling success stories - Oregon did well in the portal and had success last year, but for some on this board (not you @Weezer) to claim that not spending like those programs means we're "not serious" is living in a fantasy land. That would be management malpractice - see FSU for more details.

Spend the money on elite HS QBs (like Nico), elite HS OL (like Sanders), elite HS WR (like Matthews), elite HS edge players (like Pearce and Ross) and in the portal spend your money on players that give you multiple years of value (like Omarr, Bru, Jermod, Karic, Thornton, McMurray, etc.)

The staff is serious. They're also not gonna get caught in the fad and go after the shiny thing while leaving their philosophy in the dust. Thanks to that they've got 30 wins in 3 seasons and a playoff appearance with a freshman QB... all at a program that wasn't remotely competitive just 4 years ago.

You must have missed the most recent wisdom from the online experts. Our defense actually wasn't very good. They were built on a house of cards and greatly benefitted from a very light schedule.

I think our defense was pretty good. However I do think as the season wore on teams figured out how to slow down Pearce, Omari, and ONL. Really unpopular opinion but I would’ve loved to have still had Baron; I think he gave you a lot and made Pearce even better when he was here and had to be worried about.

On Jefferson, I know nuance isn’t an accepted tactic here, but here’s my position. He is an excellent raw athlete. In HS he was fast, ran great routes and was very physical. He was recruited by top ten programs in two sports. I really wanted us to sign him. Saban thought so much of him that he personally visited him in the eleventh hour to get his commitment. He had two minor surgeries last year. He missed a lot of Summer practices. He missed some Fall practices. He was never in line for major playing time. He did not make a meaningful dent in the stat line because he didn’t play. Of the WR’s that did play, two caught balls for over 300 yards. One is Williams, the other is a junior. Other Freshmen did make it on the field because they put in their time. None of them made a big difference. Had Jefferson been healthy, I think reasonable people believe he would’ve gotten mop up catches like the other Freshmen not named Williams. I’m still excited about his potential. If you’re not, that’s ok. I’ll actually still be excited about his potential if he doesn’t play this year. Not every kid progresses at the same rate. See Hyatt. That said, I actually think he will contribute this year. In fact, I’ll go out on a limb and say that Matthews, Staley and Jefferson will all be receivers worth recruiting. They are all very fast, cut well, take contact and CATCH. They were all a part of Heupel advocating for this type of receiver. I really wanted those three guys last year to all sign. I’m still a believer in Jefferson now.

Did Jefferson age out of playing time as a freshman at Alabama? Just assuming he was too old.

I agree with your point about focusing on high school recruiting. But we have to be even more successful than middle of SEC. It has been foolish to not be competitive with OHSt on WRs and RBs which help separate once you are in the playoffs.

The NFL model is to prioritize QB, OT (especially LT), and pass rushers. DT would come right behind that, followed by CB. The lowest priority is RB.

I do think WR is a higher priority than it used to be (probably switched places with RB in the priority rankings).

This staff seems to be following that model.

We do? So all those we were “in on” like the northwestern OL and the Branches and others we didn’t get, it’s just because we didn’t want them?
lol . We don’t get just about as many as we do , is closer to the truth.

We go all in and get some we want, key word , some!

All in on them, of course you realize they are from different years.

We make solid offers and sometimes it’s enough sometimes not,and maybe one a year we’ll overpay .
Don’t lol at me, boy.

If you want to think Heupel made a strong push for a 160 lb WR after losing Bru and Thornton, go ahead. We need a physical WR who can block.
