'25 Portal Thread

Think some of you are forgetting we still have sanctions that still affect both our scholarship numbers and our official visits
Also limitations on communications. We specifically cannot communicate with potential players/ recruits for 28 full weeks over probation, and even more specifically, cannot do it at least one week in both December and January. Not even a text message. That's an uphill battle

Heard was number 20 overall, we haven’t signed a difference maker out of the portal. Heard was only ranked as high as he was due to his original ranking. He had very little experience. The highest ranked player we have signed out of the portal with even halfway decent stats was Holden Staes at 34 overall. We aren’t competing for the more established transfers

Stopped reading at the bolded part.

Nice troll attempt.

He is correct but you can’t also ignore the fact that several key starters on their team are from the portal and that is with a lot more 4-5 star players on their roster than we have. We don’t seem to be willing or able to pay what it takes for the handful of difference makers in areas of need that do enter the portal. The highest ranked portal player we have signed is Heard and I wouldn’t describe him as a difference maker
What about Jermod McCoy? Miles Kitselman? Would you consider either of those difference makers this past year? Chris Brazze's season was a little underwhelming overall but he made a pretty significant difference for us in the Bama game. It's not only to highest rated portal guys who can be difference makers. As for Heard, I guess it depends on how you view making a difference. Do you think our OL would have been better, worse or the same had Dayne Davis or Jackson Lampley been a starting OT for us? Those guys Ohio State brought in helped get them to the same record we had. They were just better than we were when we played them. Their team seems to have finally put everything together and are on a tear through the playoffs. I would say their biggest difference makers are the guys they recruited and developed, though, Guys like Jeremiah Smith, Emeka Egbuka, Carnell Tate, Treyveon Henderson, Jack Sawyer, Cody Simon, etc.

middle of the SEC? We were top 3 this year.

you millenials need to stop being so needy demanding instant gratification.

its a gradual process to climb to the top. and our climb is steeper and longer than the schools you want to compare us to.

Day has been at OSU for a while and walked into a loaded roster. until this year was ALWAYS the also ran guy. top of the Big 10 but never could put them over the top. this year is still pending.

Smart was at Georgia for 5 or 6 years before he won the SEC. and he walked into a loaded roster, and one of the best recruiting set ups in the nation.

Bama has more talent but was down this year.

Sark at Texas took years to build to this point, with infinite money, and a better set up. and if you think our schedule was easy, don't look at Texas's.

Oregon has been stable for decades, has infinite money.

we are climbing. are we there yet? no. does that mean that we aren't making progress? No. every year our recruiting gets better. the incoming class is the best we have had yet. the last two have been more than 50% on that mythical Blue Chip Ratio standard.

the goal this year was always just to make it to the playoffs, but as soon as we did that it suddenly becomes not good enough because we played the best team in the nation first round.

No one started where we were and has made it as far as we have.
To much common sense your making here.

I find humor in the fact the group that likes to refer to Nico as the $8 million dollar man also claims that we are bargain shoppers.
Frankly, $2 million/yr for a QB is probably not out in front in terms of their "salaries", now. Q. Ewers is supposedly commanding $5-6 million for one season, next year.

I agree but that doesn't change the irony of the two talking points. Rumored NIL deals show Arch Manning was pulling in over $3 million this season to almost exclusively sit on the bench at Texas.

True but look at their main skill players. They are guys OSU recruited out of HS. You are right about us not paying for the real difference makers. Take the Branch bothers. Guess they are good enough for UGA but not us.

UGA took 11 transfers last season. I think like 3 of them were contributors this year. Just bc they take someone doesn’t mean they’re automatically difference makers.

So we sign a 5star (Heard) and that's not good enough..
You guys....
Money is not an issue... having room and making the correct choices is.

Relax, let em work.

Wait.....
