'25 Portal Thread

Paraphrasing Josh Pate:

“The best programs will spend a lot of money but you won’t know about it bc they’ll spend it on their own roster - guys they recruited out of HS that they develop and trust. That’s how you build a culture. OSU didn’t spend $20M on their roster bc the portal, they spent that to retain their roster. People get caught up on the few guys who are transfers.”
That's exactly what AP said on today's podcast. You spend more money on retaining your roster.

On the topic of transfer portal difference makers, I pulled 247s list of the top TE guys from last year. There were 15 4* TEs in their rankings. Here is their production:
1. Amari Niblack(TX)-5/33 0 TDs
2. Holden Staes(UT)-15/131 1 TD
3. Justin Joly(NCST)-43/661 4 TDs
4. Jake Johnson(UNC)-2/21 0 TDs
5. Jalin Conyers(Texas Tech)-30/320 5 TDs
6. Ben Yurosek(UGA)-15/185 0 TDS
7. Chamon Metayer(Colorado)- No stats
8. Mark Redman(UL)-24/256 3 TDs
9. Carsen Ryan(UTAH)-10/113 1 TD
10. Bauer Sharp(Okla)-42/324 2TDs
11. Jack Velling(Mich St)-36/411 1 TD
12. Cole Rusk(Illinois)-No stats
13. Rico Walker(Auburn)-No stats
14. Dae'Quan Wright(Ole Miss)-27/394 4TDs
15. Cameron Ball(Miss St)-9/77 0TDs
I'm adding in Ohio State's TE, who was #16 overall and the highest rated 3*-Will Kacmarek-6/65 0TDs

#51 TE Miles Kitselman(UT)-22/304 4TDs
I would say he compares pretty favorably to the list of "Top portal guys" at his position. Only Joly had clearly better stats across the board.

I don’t know where I said that but saying we would go for a starter quality guard (I was implying Pregnon) and me saying I think we need a guard are different and not inconsistent with each other.

Don’t worry I’m one step ahead. It’s like 4 post down on your history. Hurry and delete it!!

No they haven't. Oregon has had 6 different head coaches since 2007.
1. Mike Bellotti retired in 2008
2. Chip Kelly
3. Mark Helfrich
4. Willie Tagert
5. Mario Cristobal
6. Dan Lanning

except for Heupel and Tagert I think most of our fans would have traded any of our coaches for any of theirs during that time.

during that time they averaged 10.9 wins a season.
2 4 win seasons, one of those was a 7 game 2020.
2 7 win seasons
3 9 win seasons
4 10 win seasons
1 11 win season
5 12 win seasons
2 13 win seasons
several PAC 12 titles and playoff appearances.

that seems pretty dang stable compared to: 7.1 wins a seasons, or 6.4 if you remove the vacated wins
1 4 win season
5 5 win seasons (including pruitts forfeited games)
1 6 win seasons
3 7 win seasons
1 8 win season (including pruitts forfeited games)
3 9 win seasons
2 10 win seasons
1 11 win season
and one SEC game appearance right at the start of your time line.

Don’t feel like we need to have a Guard but Pregnon is too good to not take a run at. Oregon obviously has him on campus now but we’ll swing.

Feels like a decent shot he comes to town.
IMO if you can get Pregnon then you immediately start Moe out at C on Day 1 of spring practice to see if he can win the job over Satterwhite/Anderson. That's assuming of course that Karic wins his appeal, which I anticipate happening. If that happens you've got way better than average (and improved YoY by a lot) OL.
