IMO if you can get Pregnon then you immediately start Moe out at C on Day 1 of spring practice to see if he can win the job over Satterwhite/Anderson. That's assuming of course that Karic wins his appeal, which I anticipate happening. If that happens you've got way better than average (and improved YoY by a lot) OL.
I don't expect Karic to win his appeal.

Trippie I like you, but you need to relax on the portal stuff 😂

You are way too invested. He may be talking about HIS personal opinion and not the staff's.

I don't understand attacking someone who brings us good info (especially when we have run off so many before)

Staff felt like we needed Thompson, so...
I’d believe the difference is we think Thompson, Moe or Pregnon would be better than or equal to current guard options for next year on roster. Just because you go after one of those doesn’t mean some other guy would be worth going after just to have a body. I think people view the staff going after some guys is a sign they don’t like what they have. I think the correct way to view it is they view those 3 guys as better than or equal to what they have but would also be fine to stick with what they have if nothing else is available or comes at a price out of line with what’s currently coming in or coming back

Then I assume you don't expect anyone to win any appeals. Because if a guy who played 4 games and 5 snaps can't win an appeal then they'll say no to literally everyone.
I should clarify since some are parsing my words.. we don't expect Karic to win his appeal. I have no opinion on his appeal.

We passed on Thompson’s price so I’d say we decided we didn’t need Thompson actually
I didn't mean for my reply to come off as sarcastic or aggressive.

Obviously "need' is all relative, but by all accounts we had an agreement with him. That is, we thought we needed him enough to bring him in - after Moe committed - and agree to a price. Now, once that price skyrocketed we decided we didn't "need" him that badly. But that's different than "we didn't need him at all," agree?

middle of the SEC? We were top 3 this year.

you millenials need to stop being so needy demanding instant gratification.

its a gradual process to climb to the top. and our climb is steeper and longer than the schools you want to compare us to.

Day has been at OSU for a while and walked into a loaded roster. until this year was ALWAYS the also ran guy. top of the Big 10 but never could put them over the top. this year is still pending.

Smart was at Georgia for 5 or 6 years before he won the SEC. and he walked into a loaded roster, and one of the best recruiting set ups in the nation.

Bama has more talent but was down this year.

Sark at Texas took years to build to this point, with infinite money, and a better set up. and if you think our schedule was easy, don't look at Texas's.

Oregon has been stable for decades, has infinite money.

we are climbing. are we there yet? no. does that mean that we aren't making progress? No. every year our recruiting gets better. the incoming class is the best we have had yet. the last two have been more than 50% on that mythical Blue Chip Ratio standard.

the goal this year was always just to make it to the playoffs, but as soon as we did that it suddenly becomes not good enough because we played the best team in the nation first round.

No one started where we were and has made it as far as we have.

Great post Louder. Most VOL fans thought 2024 was a rebuilding year and predicted 9-3. Vegas set the o/u on wins at 8.5. We overachieved with a freshman QB who had started only 1 bowlgame and a suspect offensive line. FWIW, i think next year is also a 9-3 type year now that the entire WR room, at least 2 starters on the Oline, and our LB room are gonna be VERY YOUNG next season. The vegas win o/u might be 8 instead of 8.5 honestly. We are setting up to be a team in 2026 that should make the playoffs and have a shot at the whole enchilada...I havent seen our 2026 schedule yet though. As long as it isnt impossibly hard like Flardas last year then we should be in good shape to challenge for the Championship in 26 IMO.

Wasn't parsing but thank you for clarifying. Again, logically it makes zero sense for him to not win an appeal unless literally everyone else is losing theirs too.

Guess we'll see..

except for Heupel and Tagert I think most of our fans would have traded any of our coaches for any of theirs during that time.

during that time they averaged 10.9 wins a season.
2 4 win seasons, one of those was a 7 game 2020.
2 7 win seasons
3 9 win seasons
4 10 win seasons
1 11 win season
5 12 win seasons
2 13 win seasons
several PAC 12 titles and playoff appearances.

that seems pretty dang stable compared to: 7.1 wins a seasons, or 6.4 if you remove the vacated wins
1 4 win season
5 5 win seasons (including pruitts forfeited games)
1 6 win seasons
3 7 win seasons
1 8 win season (including pruitts forfeited games)
3 9 win seasons
2 10 win seasons
1 11 win season
and one SEC game appearance right at the start of your time line.
This is all irrelevant. 6 different head coaches since 2007 is not a stable program. They've remained good throughout that period, but they have not been stable.

I like you as well, RT25. Great poster.

It’s just funny we don’t need a Guard now, especially after he said Karic may not win his appeal.

He is correct but you can’t also ignore the fact that several key starters on their team are from the portal and that is with a lot more 4-5 star players on their roster than we have. We don’t seem to be willing or able to pay what it takes for the handful of difference makers in areas of need that do enter the portal. The highest ranked portal player we have signed is Heard and I wouldn’t describe him as a difference maker

Last season alone we grabbed:

Freshman AA. McCoy. Now all SEC and 3rd team AA.

Freshman AA Brazzell. Started all season, expected to make a big leap this year.

1st/2nd rd draft pick Omar N. Lott. All SEC type season, 2 sacks vs Bama

5* OTackle Heard. Improved all year, will likely start 2 more years at Left Tackle

TE Kitselman. Best TE, best hands on the team. Has NFL future. Starts in 25.

LB Pili. Got hurt but was our best LB.

Safety Jacobe Thomas. Was hurt, expected to contribute next season

In the past have landed WRs Tillman, Bru, Thornton etc. This staff has done a great job in the portal at plugging holes in our roster and landing impact players. Kitselman and ONL are examples of great scouting too. Coach Hype does great in the portal...just not early in portal season. Last class was all signed in mid to late January IIRC

Yeah this is where I'm at too. I get the urge to freak out cause we're not rushing to be the highest bidder on all these big names. But the last couple years have kinda shown it will probably come together and we'll be good again. Would i love to build a perfect roster on paper and have it all announced today? Yes. But we all know that is not how we operate. Yall are thinking of Ole Miss. And last I checked they missed the playoffs. Could you imagine? How embarrassing.

From what I've read, Jermod McCoy would have been an All-American anywhere he went. He's just not a difference maker from the portal.

I don’t know where I said that but saying we would go for a starter quality guard (I was implying Pregnon) and me saying I think we need a guard are different and not inconsistent with each other.
Trippie struggles with context plus he’s tripping because we haven’t signed 10 from the portal already.
