'25 Portal Thread

You have to develop what we have/what we have arriving to campus. This is going to be a golden opportunity to finally get some young guys some run and develop them. We have shot ourselves in the foot with the development of our Wide Receivers by bringing in transfers and it just showed by having 3 guys leave.
The guys who left were all wallpaper. They were never going to start or even meaningfully contribute

How do you know it’s hands issue and not a focus/mental issue?
Absolutely. Sorta like Hyatt the year before he was the best receiver in college and also Ramel Keyton last year who’s on an NFL roster. He showed enormous promise and got open pretty frequently. He did have some key drops but Nico also missed him numerous times when he was wide open. He got minimal opportunities and could have been pressing. I would assume he has had conversations with the staff and knows where he stands but you could see the potential. I’m sure the staff knows what they have and what they need.

Wonder if we would let them enter the portal and see what their options are and then negotiate with them? It seems unlikely (or bad scouting) to miss on all 3 receivers.

No one missed on the receivers who are transferring. Being recruited over is not a new phenomenon. It's been happening for decades. It's a simple matter of value. Those receivers transferring have more value to a team that can actually give them playing time than they have to us being depth pieces. We have depth. If we needed another receiver we would have paid one of the ones leaving enough to keep them happy. None of those guys were necessarily unhappy here, but they have to treat it like a business.

Matthews has shown he can throw a block, so maybe he takes over Bru's spot? Brazzell on the other side and Squirrel in the slot. Then Staley. But unless we plan on playing true freshmen, definitely could see us taking a couple of WRs. Or, I wonder if we would consider making Seldon a WR?
Seldon as a WR might be a way of getting a play maker on the field. Seems I remember he played WR in high school.

Sounds like the staff really likes this incoming WR class. It is time for Pope to coach these youngster up.

Also this is going to provide the opportunity to sell early PT to what could be the best WR class that we have brought in in a long time in 2026.

With all the concerns at the WR position, does anyone know the times on our two incoming kids?
I fully realize drops aren't included in highlight reels but it seems Dodson has great hands but Jackson can make a DB look like a statue without speed and moves

Pretty much guaranteed we take a portal WR now. I would think someone with multiple years of eligibility but probably not a top tier guy like Hudson or Concepcion.
Agreed, we will take 1, maybe 2 for depth. Wouldn't mind only taking 1 and have Smith and Jackson battle for the other outside WR spot on the 2nd string.

"Thompson visited Michigan State before coming to Auburn and also plans to head to Ohio State, Tennessee and South Carolina. He said he wants to come to a decision before the end of the month."

"I will say, this is one where I think Auburn wants to lock him down and doesn't want those next visits to happen. Not going to put in a prediction by any means, but they feel good about him."

How can we not be pursuing any transfer wr’s at this point? Will we even have a complete 2 deep?

Was just told by his coach that talks with UF are progressing. It sounds like an OV is possible, however UF being out of town next week for the bowl game complicates that some. But there does seem to be some mutual interest. Texas and Tennessee are getting involved.

Well I have family that live in High Point and they graduated from UNC. I talked to them last night and they are excited but not delusional. They just would like a competitive team and maybe stumble into a ACC Championship eventually..
They better not “eventually” too long, belicheck is old as dirt.

No big losses from the WR room. I didn't think Webb nor Nimrod were any good. Leacock was a total unknown and Spillman was here so we could get Edwin. Best of luck to all those kids.
Have to hope Edwin doesn't leave. He's going to be a good one and we're going to probably need him against OSU.
