This makes no sense. I'd take Tate in a heartbeat, but OSU has put WR after WR into the NFL. Didn't matter if they were WR1 or WR2 or even WR3, OSU has put WRs in the league. If there are serious questions about QB, I could see that. If Hartline is leaving, I could see that. But being upset about playing next to Smith? If anything, that opens up more targets for him because Smith will draw the double.

Frutuitious post not long after my earlier post. Makes no sense to who? To Weezer? Ok. And your evaluation of the situation might even be the most logical way to process the information. But this idea that because YOU think it makes no sense must mean that another person would SURELY process that information and feel the exact same way about it is just not reality.

I spend every day teaching 16-18 year olds. Do you know how often I see them choose to do something and when we discuss what they were thinking I think to myself "how in the world did you make that decision based off of those circumstances."

Been saying this about Hartline for awhile. Make him a huge offer. Give him the OC/WR coach position. Make him the highest paid OC. Elite recruiter and developer of talent. I know what some will say “lol he ain’t leaving OSU.” What’s wrong with trying to get him? Oh and in case we all forget, Saban wasn’t taking the Bama job remember? Money talks.
Yes sir, but million dollar question is would Heupel do that or to stubborn. I would offer him at least 2 million a year

Per AP, people "in the know," meaning people who are close to him and know the situation, are saying that Carnell Tate is not happy with being the #2 guy. And a lot of athletes share this same perspective. He is going to be in the shadows of Jeremiah Smith his entire career at OSU. So he seems to be looking for a #1 spot which is why he will entertain coming here, imo. I truly believe we have the money to spend for him if it does come down to a bidding war, but I don't think that's the main issue here. I'm sure $ is involved, but being "The Guy" is the biggest factor. Sure, OSU is gonna try to do whatever they can to keep him, but there's not much arguing that Jeremiah Smith IS and WILL BE the #1 during Tate's playing days at Ohio State.
That's why I'm thinking Carnell Tate may be one to jump in. NO ONE is getting more looks at OSU, as long as someone like Jeremiah Smith is walking campus.

But, and I'm assuming, OSU was there for him during the hardest/toughtest time in his life, whenever his mom was killed; so, that's a huge reason he may stay.
I posted this a couple of weeks ago in the Branch thread. The majority of these kids, and many times on into the NFL, truly believe they are numero uno, no matter what. People saying, "he'll be #2 there next year...why would he leave?" Because he'll be #2, that's why.

Whether it happens or not, Tate being #2 has always been a reason he WOULD LEAVE, imo. Many don't want to be in someone else's shadow, and Jeremiah Smith casts an enormous one.

Has always made sense to me that Tate may transfer, especially during the playoffs. On the biggest stage, in 4 games, Tate caught 11 passes for 150 yards, zero TDs. That's averaging 37.5 yards a game, on 2.75 catches. And, 7 catches/87 yards of that total was in the Texas game alone. Take away that game, and Tate caught 4 passes for 63 yards...in 3 games. That's not BIG TIME numbers, and players who believe they are THE BIG TIME, know it.

Texas also had the defense to force teams away from their #1 guy, which is why he got a few more looks in that game.

"Frutuitious." I kind of like it.

So you think Mike Matthews doesn't want to be Numero Uno?

2026 is not a great recruiting class instate (though not a terrible one), but it is a great year in NC and that’s our 2nd “instate” territory when we’re rolling. Need to rack up in NC.
Agree and they've done well in NC early. Might be too early for Bill to really establish UNC in those kids' minds which is nice with how good the state's 2026 class is like you said. Would be nice if they had a tackle over there lol. Need tackle help bad

Would love to see that, but doubt Heupel would go with an OC that didn't run his type Offense. Heupel needs some new elements to his offense, but again I think he's too damn stubborn.. As far as Saban, he only left Miami because he knew his controlling a$$ couldn't control grow men. In a perfect world this would happen. It would solve our OC and WR issues and lack of production.

Guys.... I'm hearing that Hartline is coming to Tennessee to be our new OC and WR coach. Halzle is staying on staff as QB coach and assistant OC. Tate AND Smith are coming with Hartline to Tennessee. Source: My Dreams.
I really hope this is true mainly cause it will show Heup will try to make the changes to get this team to a championship and isn’t afraid of hurting anyone’s feelings.

Do we even have a #1 option? We spread the ball around. We use X, Y, and Z, not WR1, WR2, and WR3.

If it is Tate, which I'm still in see it to believe it mode, I wouldn't be surprised to see someone like Brazzell or possibly Staley portal out in the Spring. So the WR room could still be thin.

Everyone wants to play, and there's only one ball.
The one year our offense was humming, we did have a #1. Mathews isn't going anywhere. If Tate comes in, he would be the perfect compliment to go with Mathews and Staley. If Brazzell leaves, then no biggie. Tate would instantly be our #1 and would greatly improve our WR room. Plus, I could see Travis Smith being an option behind Tate( if he comes),Mathews and Staley. Brazzell led our WR,'s in drops last year, with Squirrel doing that the year before. Guess we will know soon.

Heupel is always going to call plays and Hartline would want to call plays if he became an OC.
I keep hoping Heupel does what a lot of HC's are starting to do. Hand over play calling, especially with all the HC's have on their plates these days. Not to mention, it's not like our offense has been very explosive outside of 1 of the last 4 years. Something I really hope he does in the near future. I truly believe DC's have figured out how to slow his offense down. Not like it's a very complicated Offense. He's probably too damn stubborn and would probably take another year or 2 of lackluster offensive production.

There are wide receivers that came cheaper than Tate would that we passed on. It makes zero sense y'all are even entertaining this. If we get another WR (and I think we will) I doubt it's going to be anyone who would replace one of our projected starters. Because that's how we kept our projected starters.

We did average 39 points a game in 2021. Also 35 ppg this season and we’re one of the best rushing offenses in football.
