Possible DC hire?

I heard on a talk show that in Heupel’s time as HC at UCF and now UT, he has yet to fire any assistant coach. I got a feeling he’s going to ride with Banks and Martinez come Hell or high water.

Firing Banks would be dumb. Martinez is a good recruiter, so probably shouldn't fire him but he needs help. Follow the Saban model and hire an "analyst" that knows how to coach DBs.
Martinez a good recruiter. What 4-5 star kids have he brought in. I think that is delusional. Banks is way over his head and Martinez hasn’t shown me he can coach at all. Sorry. Those two need to go.

Since Hadden went down we’ve played a whole lot more zone. I get it, but we’re going to have switch it up this weekend. Just bring 5-6 guys almost every down.
We for sure can’t sit back on our heels and just get picked apart. Mix it up, take some chances. Don’t show the same look every play. Playing safe has been proved to not be working. Bring 5-6 play more man. Make the quarterback make a quick decision. Georgia is too good when quarterback has time. We can’t play soft coverage. GBO

He's gonna ride with them because they've done what was asked of them. Improve the defense and help win games for a program that hasn't had a 10 win season in 15 years.

I agree, Martinez is one of the better recruiters on staff. But how is Banks in over his head? He took a defense that no one else wanted any parts of and improved it into one of better defense in the country. Yes, we've had some ugly performances on D and o as well, but what all of a sudden makes him in over his head?

I’ve got no objection to seeing what Banks can do next year, but I can’t be convinced there’s not a better DB coach than Martinez out there somewhere.

I'm done with Martinez. I was 2 weeks ago. This is his second stint here with the same results. I'm sure he's a good guy, might be great at recruiting...but he's been associated with secondary garbage...TWICE. If you're coming to TN because of Martinez (Boo Carter) you're not doing yourself any favors. 3 years....enough, things need to change, whatever happens.

No we shouldn't continue doing the same thing, we have to bring in someone that can coach DBs. I'm not opposed to canning Martinez but doing so you lose a damn good recruiter.
Recruiting doesn’t mean anything if you can’t coach and win the games that matter.

Huepel is here through 2025 minimum, no matter what. Almost everyone on the D side honestly needs to go though. Corners never look back which is coaching and the cushion we give is insane. You cannot be competitive when your secondary is a joke.

With majority of the fan base wanting Banks/Martinez out next year, who would y'all suppose we should go after? I have seen commenters on facebook say Alex Grinch... but I have also seen the same ones say fire Heupel and start the rebuild process over.

Banks is going no where. and Martinez may not go anywhere..

lol. This is dumb. Banks is going nowhere nor should he. Willie should be gone but I get why he was hired. We are now in a much better and STABLE place so Hype now needs to evaluate the staff and make some changes. Banks’ seat should be ice cold.

our defense has given up less than 30 points in every game this year. yes, there are problems on defense and a lot of it comes down to needing better athletes on the back in (i think help is on the way). lack of offense in key moments is glaring issue.
I don't know if some of these fools even understand what that means or the significance of it.
