Possible USC transfer- DE Malik Jackson

Dont try and take up for them. Being overly negative all the time gets old fast.

haha, So does being overly positive.....

Like John Brice.....

Worley, who had a double-digit offer list including scholarship opportunities from Florida, Florida State and LSU, among myriad others, is rated as a high three-star prospect by Rivals.com

This is exactly what I was talking about.... Worley a "high 3star" because he's a Vol commit. hahaha. He's rated 5.5 on Rivals???? How is that a "high 3star"???

It's the Koolaid man!! If Worley signs with ND, John Brice would've reported something like "low 3star QB Worley commits to ND".....

Being in the top 15 is a good job. If you're in the ACC. A top 15 class in the SEC simply means 5 or 6 teams in your league signed better classes. I'm not the biggest believer in the recruiting services, but they don't miss it bad enough that 6th can ever ascend to 1st.

so you wouldnt be happy with a top 15 class?

The same can be said for those who only focus on the positive. Everyone should try to be as open-minded as possible and look at things from an outsider perspective instead of just being a fan of your team (i.e. alot of Koolaid drinkers get excited when UT gets a 3* commit, then they downplay other teams' 3* commits. As if to say our recruits are always under-rated).

As a sports fan, it's your prerogative to share your opinion on what your team does. But if someone is always negative OR always positive, they are most likely looking at each topic with a pre-determined mindset and are not being logical.

So, it goes both ways.

Absolutely. No question. I'm just as critical of the yahoos that think Dooley is the second coming of Nick Saban. Let him coach. We will not know much about this coaching staff for a couple of years. Recruiting and what they've done to fill holes during the time since they arrived are positive signs though.

After the ringer UT has been through the past 3 years, you don't think 15th and above in the final rankings would be good?

Exactly, but the way I look at it. Dooley's tenure so far has been very positive, so I prefer to think that he can keep it up.

Not in the Rivals 100. But he is a lock, the most unsilent silent of all time.

Ohh so Rivals 100 only... hmm....

Arnett, Hayes, and Wright would be my only guesses. Wright and Arnett would be a stretch to me though.... as far as calling them "heavy Vol leans".... Wright is high on Aubbie and Bama as well as us. Arnett is likely months away from any type of commitment.

A top 15 class by this staff with the current quality of the roster and the season we are about to have would be a positive sign. No, we aren't competing with Bama and Florida yet, but getting talented players here, regardless of where some superficial rating system ranks them, is the first step.

Not when Florida, Bama, LSU, and Georgia have top 10s.

I sort of agree with this sentiment.

Phil Fulmer was getting us top 15 classes with "high character" players for the most part.

If we want to beat teams like Florida and Alabama who, arguably I guess, have better coaching staffs than we do... it only makes sense that if we don't have better players or a hell of a lot of luck.... we cannot beat them.

Bruce Pearl can beat teams with better talent than he has because he's a great coach. Fulmer had better players than UF a few times and we still lost. So, if Dooley is a great coach... we can continue to have top 15-20 classes and be okay. If he's an average coach, he better be able to pick it up a little in recruiting. That's all there is to it. But he will need at least 1 year on the football field and in the program to be able to judge both his coaching ability AND his REAL recruiting ability.... when all the cards aren't stacked against us post-Kiffin.

We need to string together consistent top-10s to be able to compete for SEC championships. However, considering the year we are getting ready to have (and the year we had last year, and being on our 3rd coach in 3 years), top-15 would be a good finish this year. It'll have to get better the following year to build on our two previous solid classes.

Pretty much what I'm saying also...

wasn't his argument that ranking alone is a poor measure, when relative quality determines who will be SEC title contenders?
Exactly. In a vacuum a top 15 class would be good. It would probably even be a pretty good class under the circumstances this year. However, it gets us no closer to winning the SEC. In fact, it gets us further away.
