We told him that we would move O to LBs and he could take DL but he didn't want to disrupt the chemistry of things. The money can't be an issue because Garner isn't making near what we offered. I suppose that if O convinces him that it is no big issue for him to move so both can be on staff, then he may listen.

FWIW, Hubbs said CLK hasn't given up on him but he doesn't know that CRG is even listening to him.

Im don't think he changes his mind, what did you think of O giving up the DL to get him here.

Makes you wonder when Lane will walk away. Today.

Not sure. Depends on how bad that Lane wants him.

I think O could be successful with LBs. He's better than Garner at DL, though. It all depends on who we land for LBs. If we land, say, Lance Thompson, I wouldn't be disappointed at all that we missed on Garner.

I agree with that. Thompson is getting more attention on the board right now, since the Garner statements. Lane's last stand with Garner is today I believe, then it is time to move on.

Is Thompson in the picrure?

Or are we just talking about him.

Rumor going around that Herm Edwards will be out in KC with the new GM coming in....Herm was Monte's first DB coach in Tampa Bay you think we will go after him??

I would think he would have more opportunities in the NFL for more money than we could offer but he might want a break from the pro game.

Yeah... can't see Edwards going all the way from head coach in the NFL to an assistant in college overnight.

Hmmn...I find this interesting. If you really look at the staff CLK is putting together from a recruiting standpoint, he is concentrating on the states that produce the most H.S. football talent. All of these guys have recruiting connections established in these areas.

CLK-California/Everywhere
O-Mississippi/Louisiana/Alabama
Garner-Georgia
Gonzales-Florida
Reaves-South Carolina
Chaney-Indiana/Illinois

All we need now are coaches who can recruit Texas, Virginia, Ohio, and Pennsylvania. That pretty much covers the states with the most football talent on a consistent basis.

I think this is what is known as the plan. Did you notice Kiff talking about the percentage demographics for d-linemen in his opening press conference. He is working from the recruiting statistics he developed at USC.

I really like this guy. He does work hard and seems to be very intelligent. If he can get the team to play as hard as he works, he will be very successfull. Our team took on our coaches personality last year. Complacent.

It would be nice to make a push for Thompson. He is a good coach and you take away Saban's top recruiter. Here is a name for DB's coach. Torrain Gray from VT. Tech consitently produces good defenses and have put several CB's in the pros lately. You can add another one this year, Macho Harris. I don't know about his recruiting abilities but he is a solid positions coach and he may know something about special teams. Eddie Gran should be wearing orange right now as well. Another TOP 25 recruiter that we could be using.

Nah, but what kind of connections were there for Chaney or Garner? Kiffin is going after who he thinks is best for the job.

I still think Lane has a big hire on the O side.

I think Thompson is about as good a recruiter as Garner and a better position coach, so yeah.

No telling for the O side. He really wants Gonzo. Justin says to watch for some Bates talk. Not sure that the Croom talk was anything more than a rumor. I'm sure a name or two will pop up that hasn't been mentioned.

Good info.
Bama's LB's have been good the last 2 yrs. Thompson's commit list looks good.

I think Drayton is staying.

It all depends on who comes. The fact that Gran hasn't been told to go elsewhere makes me think that there is a possibility that Drayton will be cut, especially if we don't get Gonzales.

I hate to have to ask this, and I have seen it on here before, is race gonna be a issue in the list he has left.

I think, like it or not, that race is a factor. Look at every one of the top recruiting staffs in the country. At least 2 minority coaches are on all of them. Garner would have been one, Lake/Perry would have been one. There are plenty of candidates. If we could land Whitt Jr., then he'd be one. That definitely plays into Drayton's hands.

Hughes seems like a good possibility. 2 time Top 25 recruiter of the year and coached with O at Ole Miss.
