Praying Before Game WILL NOT BE STOPPED AT UT (merged)

They never realized so many people would fight to keep it out if they included it, and at the time, everyone felt the same way about God and His divine guidance for America.

My how things have changed.

and again you're wrong. What the heck do they teach in Gainesville?

I'm not in Gainesville.......but make no mistake, the Founding Fathers would not recognize the hostility to religion/Christianity that is happening today, and they certainly wouldn't object to aprayer being said at a sporting event.

No but that is how I rationalize it myself. Still I do understand what you are saying.

I strongly disagree with you about God being front and center. I am someone who wished the Republican party went the route of Goldwater. He didn't want them at all to cater to the religious right, but we see what happen. Shame.

Same thing I would say about the religious right.

We have nominated a Mormon so that is not exactly sticking to the traditional religious right. Mitt thinks that Jesus was a prophet........(I think?) Been awhile since I studied those guys...lol!

some of the brightest men this country has ever known wrote a document that included the establishment clause and no mention of God and you think that was accidental? They feared the establishment of a religion and would likely appreciate the debate

Let's quit BSing about this and get to the truth of the matter. How many complaints have there been about the prayer? Who does it offend and how many?

This is an all out assault by a FEW on the culture that has been built in this country for a couple hundred years. It has nothing to do with complaints and offenses....it has to do with an agenda.

How long has prayer been going on in schools....at football games....at any sporting event in this country? How long has the Constitution been around? Why is it just now coming up?

I am actually ashamed at many of you on here. Had the idea come up to your great grandaddy that prayer be abolished at football games....he would have told you and anyone else in ear shot to shut up & mind their own business if they didn't like it. The pussification of America continues trying to please each and every bs interest. Have at it ladies.

I say put it to a VOTE.

Are you kidding? We don't put rights to a vote, nor do we put things that violate the constitution to a vote

So god and religion has nothing to do with a society's success or failure

Oh, but it does. look throughout history across the great empires..............as soon as morality goes, so does the culture and empire.

Ask Israel about God and how He factors into their survival and success. The only middle east country not dominated by Muslims and not still living in the middle ages.

But I am voting for Mitt because any group who can take five white boys and win an NCAA basketball game has got to be right!

Dude...because they are secular, have freedoms, property rights, a strong civil society, allow women to participate, have a powerful military and enjoy the backing of the US.

Not because of their religious beliefs.

So on scandinavia and asia, god is going to destroy their societies but is allowing them to thrive for now?

and yet didn't feel the need to include the word "God" in the entire document. Wonder why that is

If they prayed before a govt event I doubt that is what they meant by separation of church and state.....they were trying to protect us from.being drug out and forced to practice religion.....they didn't realize we would.be such wimps that we would cry about prayer at a ballgame

seems like the wailing and moaning is only happening on one side. Talk about wimps. Just close your eyes and have a word w your imaginary friend...nothing's stopping you.

Funny, how you seem to know what the drafter's were thinking. Did you guys meet for breakfasts with them before each day that they met to draft and propose portions of the Constitution? No, you're simply talking out of your rear end. You have no better insight into what they were thinking than any of the rest of us do. Regardless, who cares what they thought. What matters is what they wrote.

I'm not religious.....of course people are going to fight back.

I to know they prayed before writing the constitution.

If the extremist muslims have their way with the world we would all be facing mecca or where ever praying to allah! They don't allow any religious freedom in their countries based on their law. So with that being said I am just glad I can pray if I want to and still make my own religious choice.

If you read the article, it says that the 6th federal circuit made a ruling in 1997 banning this sort of activity. The 6th circuit, sadly, is Tennessee's circuit, and that means that this ruling is controlling. Fighting this in court will be a waste of money, regardless of how wrong you think it is.

I don't mind observing a moment of silence, in lieu of someone else telling me how to pray. I know this will be an unpopular opinion, but consider it in reverse. What if a Muslim was praying to Allah on the field, I bet the Christians who feel this sort of thing is ridiculous would have a total different opinion then.

Again I say that I have no problem with the prayer in general, but every time I have been to a UT game I have wondered how long it would go on before it was legally challenged.

So many people pretend that they would turn their back on the University for changing a denominational prayer to a moment of silence (so you can pray in your own way), but I don't see anything wrong with it. They aren't removing God from anywhere, he answer's prayers, you don't have to have someone else pray for you to talk to him (unless you are Catholic, but these weren't Catholic priests praying at UT).

Just my two cents.

As a devout Christian, I agree. Although I can't imagine why any person would be offended by prayer (speaking to someone you don't believe exists...), I respect the moment of silence.

Here's an idea... Why do so many Christians care so much about someone else's right to pray publicly at a football game or in a classroom, and yet are so undisciplined at praying privately in the home, with their family?
