FML. The Blues are tied 2-2 in a much needed win against Burnley. I can hardly watch.

I mean, a tie sends them 4 points clear of relegation with chances to get points against Watford, Brentford, and Crystal Palace.

The rest of the schedule looks brutal though.

Relegation is starting to feel like a certainty at this point. Burnley will move ahead of us when they beat Norwich this weekend, and I just don’t see where we’re going to pick up the points to get back ahead of them. It’s going to be an abject disaster for the club if they do go down, and quite frankly they may never recover. Some clubs are built in a way they can sustain dropping down a level and rebound, not Everton. They’ll be on a much more Sunderland-esque trajectory than somebody like Fulham/Norwich.

I just cannot imagine Everton being relegated, would be historic. I hope it doesn't happen.

It’s really crazy to think about, because outside of the PL, it’s effectively impossible to follow an English team from the US. I really hope it doesn’t happen, but at this point it’s almost going to take a miracle.

Wasn't it just in the last couple of seasons they spent a decent amount of the season near a Euro spot?

All the Championship games are on ESPN+.

It was easier to watch Villa when they were in the Championship than in the EPL where there’s like 4 or 5 different channels they could be on.

That arrangement has changed. ESPN+ only shows one game from The Championship each week now. Still have all the FA and League Cup games, but for some reason scaled back massively on Championship coverage.

At this point I don't know who to blame. How can a team that showed so much promise under Carlo go to absolute chit in one year
There’s plenty of blame to go around, but ultimately it comes down to the fact that the club is very, very poorly run. That’s what concerns me most about going down.

Dropping out of the PL is going to force a hard reset, as almost nobody from this squad is sticking around to play in the second tier. Pickford, DLC, Richarlison, Allan, Mina, Doucoure, Alli and Iwobi are almost certainly gone. Grey and Godfrey? Not sure. Coleman certainly isn’t up for a 46 game season at this point. Anthony Gordon has already show himself capable of playing at a PL level, so no idea why he’d want to slow his development by slumming it down in The Championship.

For some teams a drop down and reset can be a blessing, but I have less that zero faith in the current leadership at Everton to build something from the ground up. Then there’s the issue of the partially completed stadium out on the riverfront, that we’ve just lost the primary financial backer for, which will either have to be scrapped mid-build, or become a massive white elephant who’s cost to build becomes a giant millstone around the neck of a has-been club that has no need for a 40k Goodison Park, much less a 55k shiny new ground.

Still hoping for a change of fortunes, but if we go down I think it’s FAR more likely Everton’s next port of call after The Championship is League One as opposed to the PL.

I need a drink

The Everton fans will have way better insight than me, but the issues seem to be way beyond the manager.
They are, which is why we’ve been through six full time managers plus two interim spells in the past six years and nothing ever gets better.

I just don’t see what good changing with nine games to play will do. In spite of the results, the team is actually playing for Frank, which can’t be said for the previous manager. There’s a three game stretch in mid May that’s going to decide if we stay up or not. Watford away (who may already be relegated by then), Palace and Brentford at home (who may hopefully be on the beach by then). Going to need 7 points from those, maybe a point or two elsewhere and hope Burnley don’t catch a hot streak.

Just as an example of how fundamentally broken Everton are, just look at how we handled ourselves this past January transfer window…

- Entered the December with an all-time unpopular manager, and a defense that couldn’t keep a clean sheet that featured a CB made of glass (Mina), a RB creaking around like a tin man that is past his prime and never been the same since a horrific leg fracture (Coleman), and a LB who had fallen out so badly with the manager that he couldn’t get on the field (Digne).

- The owner/board decide to back the all-time unpopular manager and our Director of Football either resigns or is fired.

- Transfer window opens and the all-time unpopular manager ships Digne to Villa and replaces him with an unknown quantity from the Ukrainian league. Also brings in El Ghazi from Villa, who doesn’t play a position of particular need.

- Results continue to go south and all-time unpopular manager is sacked, leaving us with no manager, no DOF, and in desperate need of on-field reinforcements.

- Hired Lampard (our third or fourth choice) with little to no time left to get necessary signings in.

- Sign Dele Alli and Donny Van de Beek on deadline day.

So to recap, a club already engulfed in massive turbulence and in desperate need of defensive reinforcements used December and January to trade down at LB (at least in the short term), sign three midfielders, change managers, and lose our DOF. Just an absolute ****show.

Looks like Burnley still has Villa twice in our last 5 games. I wouldn’t be surprised if they picked up 3 or 4 points, Villa is firmly going through the motions at this point
