Seeing some buzz around Mbappe to Liverpool now that he's apparently unhappy with PSG again. Tempering my expectations but that would certainly turn around a sour season thus far...

Not sure where else he'd realistically be able to go in a January transfer window other than Madrid, and they seem to be set with their squad.

The initial numbers I’ve seen from French sources is PSG has set his transfer market price at 300-400M. Mbappe is on MASSIVE wages. He’s way out of the price range that Liverpool would realistically look at.

Take it with a grain of salt, but reports are PSG would be looking for Salah in a swap and additional $.

Mbappe is a talent worth A LOT of money. Salah, I’m not sure what to make of him this year. It’s obviously still Salah, but he’s had a pretty terrible start to the season by his standards. IF Liverpool are willing to send Salah, who would have to approve this move also, AND spend $200M-$300M.. then sure, do it and don’t look back. But I just don’t see it. That’s not Liverpools MO. They aren’t big time spenders like that.

I personally think the only legitimate option is Real Madrid. They were willing to spend $200M on him outright over the summer. But do they feel spurned? In my opinion, Mbappe is still at PSG after the January window and if he is he only has himself to blame for staying there on enormous wages in the first place. Enormous wages are a two way sword most of the time.

Sending Salah to Paris, paying $200M+ for Mbappe and still failing to qualify for the CL this season would be such a financial catastrophe for Liverpool that I can’t see them taking the risk. They’re too well run to do that IMO.

Also can’t really see Mbappe moving anywhere in January. Players of his stature don’t typically move mid-season. The one wild card in the equation may be the WC. There is typically a bit of a Silly Season afterwards where the guys who made a name for themselves get big moves, but we’ve never had a mid-season WC, so who knows.

Agreed on all fronts. It’s just not normal Liverpool business. Mbappe is worth A LOT of money. Getting him for any amount of money is usually an easy decision, but that kind of deal? Woof. That’s hard. The team is still good. Are they 10th in the table? Yes, but look at the injuries. Get guys back, get healthy, go for the push for top 4 at that point. Season is still young, no need to panic. Panicking is bad business most of the time.

I don’t even know that Mbappe is THAT much of an upgrade from Salah. Especially if Salah is just suffering a temporary dip in form. If this is all they’re going to get from him going forward, that’s a different discussion. Even if they were inclined to spend $200-$300M, keeping Salah and buying several other players makes infinitely more sense than just using that money as a makeweight in a player for player swap.

Barca is starting to get into panic territory for UCL. Sitting in 3rd in their CL group and will need some help otherwise they are crashing out of the UCL straight to Europa.

They have two games left and are at 4 points.
- vs Bayern, vs Viktoria

Inter have two games left and are at 7 points.
- vs Bayern, vs Viktoria

Goal differential is tied.

I only bring this up because from what I read part of Barcas strategy this transfer market was to try and sell off assets to put together the best team they can to win prize money from UCL and La Liga. Crash out of UCL and don’t win Europa and don’t win La Liga is even more financial hardship.

I don’t think it’s a permanent dip in production, but he’s certainly not getting any younger. Mbappe, for how good he is, is still only 23. If you analyze prime Mbappe and prime Salah then sure, that’s a different discussion. But 23 year old Mbappe is a much better situation than a 30 year old Salah who may or may not be starting a downward slide.

Just looked at Liverpools result today. Salah had a hat trick today 😂 maybe he’s finally breaking out of this funk.

A six minute hat trick to be exact. Was pretty wild.

I think this would be a great job for Tuchel. Part of where he always causes friction is with owners and recruitment and everything that goes into that side. He just wants to be a manager. Plus, he apparently really wants to stay in London.

A few of my friends that support Chelsea think it was a big mistake to let Tuchel go.

Yeah I wouldn’t fully disagree with them, I was really bummed to see him get sacked.

Tuchel is a really good manager. Great with tactics and strategy. His areas that he’s not so good with is dealing with management above him. He has had trouble his last two clubs dealing with sporting directors and owners above him. He will demand for players but doesn’t want to do any recruitment or scouting, which, he’s not a scout so I get that.. but you also look at top clubs and the models that are having the most success are the ones where the coaches, scouts, sporting directors and directors of football are all pulling in the same direction and collaborating. I think Arsenal has actually done a fantastic job of this and you can really see it shine through in the All or Nothing series.

Apparently this is where Boehly lost trust in Tuchel because Tuchel wanted no part of this. He just wants to be left alone and to coach. He would want to provide some input on the type of players or specific players but didn’t want to be involved too much. Honestly, if Roman doesn’t get sanctioned and is still the owner, it’s the perfect job for Tuchel. With Boehly though, he had different ideas and wanted this to be a more collaborate effort and was going to hire the guys to do it that way. Potter is very much the definition of this approach which is one of the reasons Boehly wanted him so badly.

It sucks, I miss Tuchel, but the show goes on.

Some World Cup altering Chelsea news here:

- Reece James most likely will miss the World Cup. Will see a specialist on his knee and determine if it needs surgery, but likely out until the beginning of 2023 at earliest.

- Kante will miss the World Cup for France. Setback on his hamstring.

AND being down a couple in Diaz and TAA. Pep may hang a touchdown on them.
TAA being out will be the the reason City don't score 4+ goals. That guy is so overrated and the club is better without him. I am disappointed he isn't playing. Liverpool will be better in defense. Liverpool also has plenty to offer without Dias. That kid is good but he lacks the finishing quality of Mane. They improve in quality without Dias but lose athleticism. If Liverpool is clinical, they could win. If not, I feel they lose by 2.

Been watching the 2nd half. Camera angles are making it tough to watch.
Thought the same thing. It’s like Bournemouth only worse since none of the stands are tall enough to put a camera on for a good vantage point. Nice scenic views of the town and wind turbine in the background though.

Exactly. I told my wife if the camera was at least about 10 ft higher then the view would be okay. Still not great, but okay. I’m very unfamiliar with non league FA Cup qualifying so I had no idea it was a double match leg. Thought we were about to see extra time and possible penalties.

If Wrexham hadn’t conceded at the end there wouldn’t have been a replay. If they draw again Tuesday night, there will be extra time and penalties.
