Presidential Debate 2020

Debate Transcript

This is dated 18 hours ago and it’s how I remember it going. I missed the first half but saw this.
I just heard the 1 in 500 live that registered while watching. I’ll take your word for it on the transcript. Scroll back to the original post that started this and we had a discussion on that context.

So I guess Joe is fear mongering another 40,000 African Americans are gonna die then? 🤷‍♂️

Well, if they'd just start raking the forests this could be eliminated. No one likes those leaves and unsightly shrubs anyway.
While he did his usual tripping over his words CA does need to actively manage the unburned fuel more like they used to. I’ve hiked in Sequoia National Forest climbing over pile after pile of dead bush and trees just shaking my head.

Yeah I figured that’s the case, just clarifying.

I guess Joe is extrapolating based on the total deaths so far and total projected at the end of the year? It might be a fair guesstimate, I don’t really know or care tbh

Sorry, @BowlBrother85, turns out that the fact that the Mueller and senate intel committee reports actually do detail hundreds of active involvements between the Trump campaign and agents acting on behalf of the Russian government doesn’t support your statement, because those facts don’t fit the definition of collusion that was used in those reports.

Guess your statement, whatever it was, really is totally unsupported.

I don't know much about forestry but I always thought those fallen trees, limbs and brush went back into the forest food chain and provided food, homes and cover for other denizens of the forest. I suppose you could clean some and leave some.

Funny txt from friend:

With regard to the potus refusing to denounce white supremacist groups, which Fox News called the easiest missed lay up in debate history, I was reminded of the line in the episcopal baptism service: "Do you renounce satan and all the spiritual forces of wickedness that rebel against god?
I'm fairly certain that even if an episcopal parent or two had some sympathy for the devil, they would have the good sense to answer that question in the affirmative

So those impeachment articles resulting from those detailed contacts are.....?

Look I know this is hard on you each time you bring up this unsupported narrative but all you need to read is the operative clause I even highlighted for you.

Based on what the idiots did impeach him on if there was any support to this crap they would have resulted in impeachment articles. They didn’t. And the final statement in the conclusion states why. There is no proof.

Keep selling though.

Oh and “whatever you statement was” ... 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

The area goes from highly arid to almost rainforest just by topping the mountain and going to the other slope. It’s wild. And very beautiful.

Here’s how science works, especially in a civil servant role - you make determinations based on the information presented to you at the time. Then, when more information becomes available, you update those determinations as needed. It’s a novel virus. Not much was known. More is known every day. Things change. That’s not being confused, it’s called new data. Don’t be dense.

Medical professionals are not confused. HCQ wasn’t shown to be effective in clinical studies for COVID. Which means, while the side effects have been known for years - those were risks worth taking when treating ailments where HCQ does show clinical efficacy. HCQ does not show clinical efficacy when treating COVID and thus the risks outweigh the non-existent benefit. This is how medicine works.

Nobody said stopping wars was a conservative thing? I said Trump says he knows more than generals. If you believe that then, well, hahahahaha.

Multiple studies suggest that American households and consumers felt the brunt of the tariffs. No shock there, companies just pass added costs onto their customers. Not sure exactly what you mean by they worked? But I’m open to reading more about it if you have some links.

Which stories? I know some have retracted but I’ve not gone back and looked how often this happened. Would be interested to see how often it happened. I know Fox News (who Trump always praised as the anti - MSM and anti - fake news until recently when their polls showed him losing) has had to apologize for showing doctored images - and I know this bc it was recent during Portland or Seattle protests. I also know many Americans watch and get their news from Tucker Carlson. I also know a judge just recently threw out a defamation lawsuit while ruling that Tucker Carlson is not a source of the “news” as we know it, or “facts” as we commonly understand them and any reasonable viewer would know this. I think that judge is assuming. Quite a lot.

But you understand Trump literally just calls anything he disagrees with “fake news”, right? Even when it’s not fake.

Listen, you have your opinion and I have mine. In my post, I gave actual examples. You gave only your opinion or taglines from CNN. FYI, I don’t watch Fox News, Tucker Carlson, CNN, MSNBC.

I hope it’s just fear mongering like I said. Because that means we would have a massive death spike again. The trends are clear on the death rate I don’t see a reason now to expect that outcome. Just my opinion.

An absurdly off the beaten path example being masquerades as the whole. I live in Portland and the whole thing is a local afterthought. Life goes on as normal. You should visit so you see how much you've been lied to by Fox News to scare you.
Didn't say anything directly about Portland per say, but your proclamation that all Portlanders are just totally cool with the riots is absurd. Didn't know you were spokesperson for the entire city of Portland. I'm sure businesses that were boarded up and damaged think "it's no big deal". I never said anything about Fox News but I'm sure you thought you were pretty clever. I guess the hundreds of other news stories, videos, and photos from other outlets on this are also "blowing it out of proportion"? All one has to do is get on twitter watch the hundreds of hours of in person videos of the looting, rioting, violence, and general dooshiness going on. You'll probably next say Antifa isn't real.

What actual examples did you give? And I can go back and link all the studies for you. And link the Fox News article where they apologize for manipulating the photo. And link scientists saying that now they know more about the virus so recommendations have changed.

Literally the worst debate I have ever seen in my adult life, hard to say if it’s the worst ever but I would bet it’s in the top three 🤦‍♂️

Wait...so it is NOT Trump's fault?

If it’s “dirty forest floors” like Trump claims, then it’s ultimately on his administration’s shoulders to manage the majority of that land since it’s federal. If it’s just something that’s always happened and is unmanageable, then his excuses are unfounded... take your pick.

The truth is the increasing scale of the fires are a symptom of the illness.

Are the fires growing in scale or is it a case of increased damage to property from people building in fire prone areas and more coverage?

The fire season and dry areas that are exposed to increased tree death by beetles and drought are giant factors.

On the dead trees issue, what Trump was doing there was implying that the failure to clear out the underbrush was due to bad governance by Dems running California.

He couldn't go all the way there, of course, because the fires are in federal forestry lands.

Pesky facts.

I actually responded to another post later on having a graph which correlated amounts burned being fairly constant but with increasing population I think it showed. Basic message was now they’re not burning wilderness it’s populated areas with higher valuations. That could very well be the case I conceded. However that doesn’t remove the responsibility from CA to protect their citizens so I’d still submit my statement somewhat hold true. They are not keeping up the the growth in services demand.

All of the fires? Really. Because the Feds own 58%, the state owns 3%, and private entities or native organizations own the rest. The owner of the land is responsible for upkeep.
