I may sound like an *******, but his death hasn't affected me nearly as much as it has some. Especially if it is true that it was contributed to his overdose.

No need to temper how you really feel about it. In the end he was just a man. A man who succumbed to a medical issue whether it be natural or self inflicted.

His legacy will be his talent. The people who celebrated him will continue to do so but the world will spin on as if he were any other man.

I find it weird that people all of a sudden seem to realize Prince was a pretty damn good guitarist..

I was never into his music but as a musician and guitarist I always knew the guy could shred. Should have started a thrash metal band.

Awesome tribute by Corey Taylor of Slipknot/Stone Sour.

The measure of his influence extends far beyond even songs that he recorded. One short anecdote: In 1981, a British artist named Sheena Easton who had a pristine and proper, girl next door image had a billboard #1 hit with 'Morning Train', an incredibly cheesy pop song... She began dating Prince in 1985 and later scored a #9 billboard hit with 'Sugar Walls' written and produced by Prince, a hyper-sexual song with such lyrics as 'Come inside my sugar walls" - Some radio stations refused to play it and it was even briefly banned on MTV. He totally corrupted her. LOL.

Other songs written by Prince that became top 10 hits for other artists:

"Nothing Compares 2 U" - Sinead O'Connor
"Manic Monday" - The Bangles
"Glamorous Life" - Sheila E

...and I hate to mention it but would anyone be surprised if it's revealed that he had been suffering from AIDS? That was my first thought when I heard that he had passed away.

You left out...

"Jungle Love" - Morris Day and The Time
"I Feel For You" - Chaka Kahn
"When You Were Mine" - Cyndi Lauper
"Stand Back" - Stevie Nicks
"How Come You Don't Call Me Anymore" - Alicia Keys

I'm sure there's more, but that's just off the top of my head.

I wonder if Pepsi Co. is going to pull their new Diet Dr. Pepper commercials due to this event. If you haven't seen them, they feature a character that is clearly heavily inspired by and lampooning the late Artist Formerly Known As...

That's more of a knockoff of Steven Tyler than Prince! IMO

It does seem like some sort of unholy union of the two - I'd go 75% Price to 25% Tyler

Sad to see the vultures already out to capitalize on his death. I'll bet his record label is loving this.

Yeah, they get to keep the rights to his music, which he had recently gotten back. Some believe that he and Michael were killed by their company over the rights to their music.
