Obama: "Since the Bush Administration launched a misguided war in Iraq, its policy in the Americas has been negligent toward our friends, ineffective with our adversaries, disinterested in the challenges that matter in peoples' lives, and incapable of advancing our interests in the region. No wonder, then, that demagogues like Hugo Chavez have stepped into this vacuum."

Hugo Chavez was elected in 1998.

and your point is?

did anyone on the global scene know or care who Chavez was then? Was Chavez getting the attention then that he is now?

Also, I thought this was a thread to talk about good ideas Obama has. The other 1,487 threads that have been started in this forum since he began his campaign have ample criticisms of the man.

He can make a quart of blood drop out of a man's body through a kung fu yell. It's called the quart of blood technique.

This thread is full of lies. If it had been taken seriously, the thread would not have made it past the 4 post mark.

In all seriousness, where did all of the other Obama supporters go? They just kind of vanished. I see e once in a while and that's it.

They were on the boat, approaching the shore, took a peak at the guns up on the cliff, and said, "Let's get the hell out of here."

Never understand this thinking. So 10 years from now is not going to happen in the US?

Let me put it another way - it's not going to happen until 10 years from now. Considering I'm 33 and, if I'm lucky, I'll be alive for another 50 years or so, 10 years doesn't qualify as "short term" in my book.

So in terms of devising energy policy and strategy, "short term" is the wise thing to focus on?

In many ways this is flawed thinking and self limiting. If you get enough union guys interested, and make it a patriotic issue we will have oil in less than 10 years.

I am really not that emotional about many things. The idea that the world will blow up if Obama becomes president is not realistic. In other words I don't have many political buttons....but for the life of me, I cannot understand why there is stonewalling when it comes to using our own natural resources to become less dependent on foreign oil.

"Short term" as in 10 yrs from now?

Do you have any idea why it COULD take that long? Answer: because it will be bogged down by the congress and environmental wackos who will list instances of accidents that happened while using 70's technology. There was a Scandinavian country(forget which one) that has found oil off the coast of Russia. They will start to pump oil about a year and a half after the discovery. If they can do it why not us? That ten year estimate is based on the unreasonable restrictions we have let our politicians impose on us. We can and should do much better. Even if it did take us 10 years I would still take 10 over 20+.

Amen. A lot if what goes in here is just for fun and antics to keep people entertained. But this is dead on. For the life of me, I cannot understand anyone being against the "all of the above" approach on energy. I have yet to see Obama or one of his supporters give a logical answer to his opinion on this matter. Very, very troubling.
