Obama will micro manage the military ala Carter, Johnson, Truman...etc.... every one except Abraham Lincoln, the last year of the war, and FDR during World War II. Lincoln had Grant and FDR had Marshall. Either would not let the presidents meddle.

I am quite confident that Obama will pull many Carter's and get our men wiped out with his advisors micro managing the military!

I am really not that emotional about many things. The idea that the world will blow up if Obama becomes president is not realistic. In other words I don't have many political buttons....but for the life of me, I cannot understand why there is stonewalling when it comes to using our own natural resources to become less dependent on foreign oil.

I'll be willing to come around on this issue the more I learn about it, but don't act like people are crazy for questioning it. Of course we want to be less dependent on foreign oil. is offshore drilling the only way to do that?

there are millions of acres that are already available for exploration. why not use what's already available? why ask for even more?

increased exploration could harm tourism, which is big, big business up and down the east coast. look at the tourism around east texas compared to the east coast. that area is a downright $hithole. look up "tar off," a product beachgoers there use to literally remove tar from their bodies after swimming in the Gulf. It's not just the drilling miles away from the coast; it's also pipelines and ports and more that could affect the coastline.

some people are concerned (rightly so) about the impact on the ocean environment.

A quick glance of this resonates with me on the surface:

No one is saying it is the only way. Completely ruling it out is an ignorant starting point.

Has the available acreage been worth the investment? I don't have any idea, I'm just guessing that it has not.

As for the environmental concerns....
