Pro-Obama thread..list his good ideas, strategies, attributes, etc.

Well, there is my reasoning then. I think that someone needs to come in and kick the American public in the ass and say "You created this, this is where we are now. It is going to suck for a while, but we are going to get through it, and things will be better because of it"

Created what? Most of the American public is for opening up drilling. How did they create restricting access?

Of course they are now, because it finally came back to hit them in the wallet. The public either didn't want drilling or didn't even care a few years ago.

So why is Obama against it? Why is he against using all reasonable methods to find energy?

I am not badgering here, but I haven't seen it. Why is it the government's job to decide or push energy choice in a certain direction?

It is the governments job to make sure that in the future the economy doesn't fall completely apart because we can't reduce our dependency on non-renewable resources.

Perhaps the economy "falls apart" when government interferes too much. Perhaps they really have no business in that arena. But to use your point, they are going to keep the economy from "falling apart" in the future by making sure we don't explore all options and banking on sources that have yet to prove fruitful?

In the future, I would hope they would keep the economy from falling apart by not wasting trillions of dollars to occupy a Middle-Eastern country while cutting funds for public schools and alternative energy research

OK emain, it seems you have veered rather wildly with this post. Floor is open to anyone that can come forward and explain and defend the logic behind Obama's energy ideas.

Why, it's completely relevant.

No it isn't. Your feelings on Iraq, school funding, etc. have nothing to do with his ideas on restricting use of our natural resources. If someone can stay on topic and present the logic, I will be happy to see it.

Why? We are talking about the economy, energy is not the only influence in the economy.

And for what it's worth, I stayed on topic talking in circles for 20 posts, Obama wants to focus on long-term solutions, I agree.

Wait. I thought this was precisely what the war was about - Oil.

Seriously, the importance of the ME to the global economy was a key factor in decision - for both those that were pro-war and those that were against it.

If the government's job to keep the economy from falling apart, such military actions are justified (even if not the best strategy in this example) as economic policy are they not?

Fine, then why are we still there and spending money when we don't have the oil, and the economy isn't so great.

I am talking about use of our natural resources, not the economy. Simple question, why is restricting our options on energy an intelligent plan?

If I told this group what kind of car I drive, they'd enjoy the predictability too much. So, let's just keep it at Humvee for now.
