So why are you not for an "all of the above" energy strategy. Why does it have to be so restricted, is that really a solid plan?
I didn't say anything about the plan, I just think he is right. As for the energy strategy, as long as people don't fall in love with some short term plan I am find with it. The problem is, they will. If gas dropped back to 2 dollars this year, you would immediately see people rush back out to buy more SUVs, drive more, or whatever. Why? Because people are stupid.
allvol,
I bet TennNC appreciates you opening the door into what has become an obvious post-padding thread.
as far as Obama being a Constitutional scholar goes...if that's the case, where does he find the "right to choose"?
Do you really think every right is expressly spelled out in the Constitution? I can't imagine how long the document would have to be if that were the case. If Obama were to answer that question, I'm sure he'd tell you that it stems from the right to privacy under the 14th amendment just as the Supreme Court ruled.
If he's a Constitutional scholar, why would he continue to appoint judicial activists like Ruth Bader Ginsberg to the Supreme Court?
Did Obama say he would appoint judicial activists? I must have missed that.
If he's a Constitutional scholar, why does he support Gitmo detainees being awarded the privilege of habeus corpus? It's clearly not a right. Check out Article I Section 9:
clearly, the public safety requires that terrorists not be given habeas corpus.
It clearly is a right except in the circumstances stated in the Constitution: rebellion or invasion. I don't think those circumstances exist. The point of habeas corpus is to give those who feel they are wrongly detained a chance to be heard. Do you really believe everyone they detain is a terrorist? If so, I've got some weapons of mass destruction that I'll sell you. Give you a good deal, I promise.
Saying you think he is right is saying everything about what you think about the plan. Why is allowing access to our natural resources a short term plan and/or what is wrong with falling in love with that plan? If it did fall to $2, what is wrong with people wanting SUVs, driving more, etc.? Why are people stupid for just wanting access to what we have and letting the market work from there?

We are? Whether we are or not, I still see his plan(or lack of one), not being able to be defended by any of his supporters on here.
My trust in the long-term decision making of the average American is obviously not on par with you guys.
If all that happened wouldn't it just mean that our economy was back on track. As long as gas prices are up the economy will be down because the consumer will have to forgo the little extras and focus on needs. There is no way around it, we need to develop an alternative but not at the expense of the average American. We need the president to have a comprehensive energy plan that includes oil only to get us through until alternatives become economically viable and practical. "Clean" energy will do us no good if the country is belly up.
I don't know why I have to. You didn't say defend, you said list. In all honesty, even if I was qualified to present information in defense it will all be speculation.
I still do not get what you are saying? What does your trust in the average American have to do with his plan? You don't trust that the average American will choose the most affordable/productive method of transportation? I have a feeling they will, Obama and his like minded thinkers believe they will as well. That is why they prefer to push us in the direction they want to go.
I understand our economy will have its ups and downs but if our economy is back on track tomorrow, and then in worse shape in 10 years, what problems were really solved?
Another question, where is everyone that was telling me a few months ago that the economy was fine?
I am just asking for reasoning in backing up what people list as his good ideas. I think you are qualified to present reasoning, I am not looking for some expert in the energy industry here.
