Exactly. Kinetic energy is moveable energy. There was simply not near enough from either to pancake the remaining 70-90 floors to the ground.
the buildings didn't instantly collapse. meaning all that kinetic lateral load was dissipated. and which likely caused damage but not collapse. it was the gravity loads of the building that tore itself down after it had been compromised. Sam, myself and others spend a good chunk of our day making sure buildings stay up under normal everyday conditions. its a full time job for really smart people with all types of oversight and safety factors. and yet we still fail (very rarely and its never our fault ). and you are surprised a compromised structure fell???
