Pulling for SEC teams

I tend to root against SECE teams and root for SECW teams. Kinda makes sense.

Under no circumstances will I pull for Alabama or Florida. I don't see how you can call yourself a Vols fan and root for them.

When we were winning in the 90s. LSU sucked, Bama sucked, auburn sucked, MSU won the west one year. There were only two good teams year in and year out (Florida and Tennessee) There is only so much room for good teams in our conference. Bama, LSU, Arkansas, Auburn, Florida, Georgia, Tennessee all can't be good at the same time. At best 3 can be top 10 teams.

I never, let me be clear on this, EVER pull for bama.
I made the mistake of pulling for florida when they played osu for the nc. I am positive that I will go to hell for this and will never sin like that again.

I think Bama has managaed to do ok despite recent success from Florida,LSU,Auburn,Georgia,Arkansas, and South Carolina. The only thing holding Tennessee back is Tennessee!

I don't give a rip anymore about rooting for all conference teams. I hate Bama. I don't mind Auburn. I hate Florida. I don't mind LSU. I hate Vandy. I don't mind A&M. I'll root for who I don't mind but I will never pull for the likes of Bama and Florida. Ever.

LOL..I think you have it figured out. Makes sense!

Anyone that thinks a strong SEC helps UT hasn't been paying attention. UT has had 3 losing seasons out of the last 4. Yeah, Bama, LSU, UGA, etc. being good has really helped UT. What a dumb*ss statement. As other posters have pointed out, there is only so much room for good teams in a conference and UT being down and in a good conference has done nothing for them. What an absurd position.

With that said, go Vols and to hell with everyone else.

This is pure ignorance. Just because we're down while the conference is strong doesn't mean "we're down because the conference is strong". Your conference makes you look good. It helps with recruiting to say "hey come here, play in the SEC". You always want your team to appear stronger, that can be achieved by playing stronger teams.

Who is the better team? A team that goes 6-6 in the Big East, or a team that goes 6-6 in the SEC? The SEC team will always appear better because of the success of the conference.

The flawed thinking is this: too many UT fans want all or nothing. They seem to feel if we're not winning the NC we're not succeeding. That is ignorant. We are succeeding when we beat or hang with the best teams out there. That is what helps with recruiting. If we beat Bama this year, we look that much better because of what Bama did to Michigan. Why would you want Bama (and the rest of the conference) to be a push over?

The people that root against the SEC are basically saying "I wish we played in the Big East so we could win more".

That is sad and I have way too much pride in UT to wish for something like that. Sad and embarrassing.

No, it's pure ignorance to think having a number of good teams better than UT makes UT better. 3 out of 4 losing seasons says um, no.

UT had no problem in the 90's being a dominant program when it was mainly only Fla and UT carrying the torch. To think that having a strong overall conference is going to make your team so much better is absurd. The record states clearly the opposite.

The SEC has always been a good conference in football. I doubt it ever changes. UT doesn't need other programs to be better for them to be better. That's absurd and already been proven wrong before.

No, it's rooted in decades of disliking your rivals. Honest to God, who the hell pulls for their rivals to win? That's freaking insane. You might as well sit down and pee.

I grew up hating Bama. If they never won another game would make me happy.

I root for the SEC in every OOC game. Mostly because I lived in Big 10 Country for a few years, and there's nothing that gets under their skin more than going around saying how much better football is in the South. Their frustration is funny.

This conference pride thing started with the Big 10 IMO. Older fans of SEC teams would/will never root for a rival.

Get out of here with your logic and reason.

This fan base doesn't want any of it.

I tried to reason with other posters earlier in this thread. They are not interested in logic or reason. Such is the reason why I try to avoid the FF. Interactions with our "fans" on here on football matters make me a sad panda that I am a Vol fan and alumnus.

I am not a SEC loyalist...I root for Tennessee and only Tennessee...I could care less about the other SEC teams and honestly hope all of them lose so it makes it easier for UT.
