'22 QB IN Tayven Jackson (Tennessee signee)

While I agree with most of this, it’s absolutely not over for Milton just like it was never over for Crompton.

I’m just glad we have a coach who wants to play the best guy now.
The only difference I see is that Crompton languished under the previous staff, but immediately responded to a new coaching staff (Kiffin). There was an obvious change that changed his career arc.

Milton wasn't very good, before (Michigan), and he hasn't responded well to Heupel's coaching (you could argue he's regressed). That coaching isn't going to change in the foreseeable future, though I certainly am cautious about throwing the baby out with the bathwater.

Again….I remain unconvinced that he’s not salvageable.
I remain convinced that Hypel is going to play the best guy which makes me happy. It’s obvious that Hooker is the best guy so I’m pulling for him to do well. I’ll do the same for Milton or Bailey if they ever become the best guy.

I do think it’s funny that people already think they know who the best qb will be in 2-4 years. Our 1 and 2 weren’t on the roster last year. That could easily happen again

Not saying that he isn't salvageable. Just that I think using Crompton as evidence isn't necessarily apples to apples for the reasons I previously noted. Milton may be fixable. I'm just not sure he will be fixed at Tennessee.

Not sure I agree that Hooker was ever "hot garbage", though I suppose that is a relative term.

I think it's based on the idea that both guys have had the exact same amount of time being coached by Heupel and his staff in this system.

One guy looks like an All-SEC caliber QB, and the other looks like he'd have trouble beating out Jarrett Guarantano in a QB competition.

One guy has shown himself to be extremely accurate, and the other lost his job, due in large part, to overthrowing wide-open receivers by 5-7 yards.

One guy has shown himself to be an extremely capable runner who puts it all out in the field for his team, and the other has shown that he's scared to get hit, to the detriment of his own team.

Why don't I believe it can happen for Milton? Because he has not shown a willingness to fight for his own team, let alone the QB job. He has Hooker in his way, this year and next, and I think he'll be recruited over in the meantime. Meaningful playing time, in his future, will likely be sought elsewhere. The writing is on the wall for him, I'm afraid. In addition to falling behind in the current battle, I think he lost the support of many of his teammates, as well.

He hasn’t shown a willingness to fight for his own team? Is this based on one play in the OM game?

If Hypel can’t fix him then he might actually be unfixable

I’m not so certain Milton will transfer. He already used his one-time transfer so he would have to sit a year. I also don’t believe he lost the support of his teammates, but I agree with just about everything else.

Gonna need some clarification but does the one time transfer rule wipe out the Grad transfer rule? He should be close to graduating, so that could be his ticket out the door without having to sit

Here's the thing with Milton. Physically, he is the ideal QB for this offense and would have allowed Heupel to run his entire offense. I wouldn't close the book on Milton just yet. A competent and more accurate Joe Milton in this offense is a defensive coordinator's nightmare. It may never happen, but he has two more years of eligibility.

Yep...would love to see Heupel work some magic on him before next year...

Wasn't sure if he qualified as a graduate transfer, or if that kind of thing even existed anymore with the new one-time transfer rule. He could also transfer down a division, if necessary. If he wants to play, he may have to consider that idea, or giving up a year of eligibility.

Of course, he's only one injury away from meaningful snaps at Tennessee, again, so maybe he rolls the dice.

He already graduated from Michigan and then transferred to TN according to all the press reports I've read.

The knock on Hooker from VT fans is that he panics in pressure time. He seems to have taken a big step towards getting over that. During ole mis the 3 plays before the 4th and 28 pass he looked panicked and scared. On 4th he calmed down and threw a strike. Then played solid again till the injury.
Milton threw a near perfect pass for what should have been the win before his bone headed mistake.
the point.
Hooker is the best option and has developed faster but Milton isn’t done yet even if his development has been slower.
We will see..Milton has never been a good QB..ever. He is a guy with insane ability, but he can't access it...he never has and I don't think he ever will.

If Heupel is ever able to "fix" him, it will be one of the greatest development jobs ever imo.

If Heupel can't fix him...nobody can.

According to guys that know people on the team...he lost a lot of support with that stupid running out of bounds play.

how good can this guy run? better or worse runner than hooker?

Chip Kelly said he reminds him of Marcus Mariota and I’ve also seen OSU articles calling him “miniature Mahomes”

But at the elite 11, he got honorable mention for most athletic QB in attendance. (Drew Allar was the winner of the most athletic)

Well that's encouraging.
