'22 QB IN Tayven Jackson (Tennessee signee)

Perfect scenario is he's the bridge to Davis. Hooker one year to let him redshirt and he plays 2 and goes to the league, that allows Davis to redshirt his true frosh year then take the reigns. Portal should only be for depth in a Perfect scenario.
I think so too but I often wonder what transfer wants to come in and sit the bench for their last year

It doesn't necessarily have to be their last year. You can get freshman transfers now and most just want the opportunity to compete for a shot to play.
Hopefully but if someone is transferring they’re looking for an opportunity to start, not come in behind Hooker, Jackson and whoever we sign in 2023 (hopefully big timer)

I see potential still in Milton as well but I don’t think he has the right mentality… he was going to the right places didn’t throw an int he hit the short game efficiently he was just too far off on the deep ball… that’s a mental block he will have to overcome… he may never start at UT again but I still think he could be successful if he were to start… he has the arm to touch any part of the field if he learned how to control it.

I hope you are right, however I think the final play against Ole Miss sheds more light on why he hasn't been successful. The mental makeup up at QB is everything. Its what cursed JG also.

I don’t want him to be the starter ever again because getting over that mental hump is easier said than done… I hope we go from hooker to tayven… I was just saying I haven’t completely wrote him off if he was to start because he can run the offense and hit the short game efficiently and has one of the most gifted arms I’ve ever saw…

The only difference I see is that Crompton languished under the previous staff, but immediately responded to a new coaching staff (Kiffin). There was an obvious change that changed his career arc.

Milton wasn't very good, before (Michigan), and he hasn't responded well to Heupel's coaching (you could argue he's regressed). That coaching isn't going to change in the foreseeable future, though I certainly am cautious about throwing the baby out with the bathwater.

Crompton didn’t immediately respond to Kiffin. He was terrible until the 4th quarter of the Auburn game, which was about the 5th or 6th game. I thought he looked like the worst QB in UT history in the 09 UCLA game. After that Auburn game, he took off.

Milton only started 2 games.

The knock on Hooker from VT fans is that he panics in pressure time. He seems to have taken a big step towards getting over that. During ole mis the 3 plays before the 4th and 28 pass he looked panicked and scared. On 4th he calmed down and threw a strike. Then played solid again till the injury.
Milton threw a near perfect pass for what should have been the win before his bone headed mistake.
the point.
Hooker is the best option and has developed faster but Milton isn’t done yet even if his development has been slower.

That mental part probably comes from heupel and hazle and the way they coach the QBs to be confident and go make a play. Hooker not afraid of making a mistake while making a play like he was when he first got here. It’s like sometimes if you play not to get hurt you tend to get hurt. If you play to not make mistakes you make them. See Guarantano

Chip Kelly said he reminds him of Marcus Mariota and I’ve also seen OSU articles calling him “miniature Mahomes”

But at the elite 11, he got honorable mention for most athletic QB in attendance. (Drew Allar was the winner of the most athletic)

Reminds me some of Dak in build and style of play.

Milton hasn't earned the start over Hooker and that would be a slap in the face to Hooker if you did that.
I get all the earning a starter position but not sure HH would take it that way at all after listening to that young man on various programs...."Tennessee Prime" for one, he loves his brothers on the field. It was simply a thought, perhaps once we're up 43 - 0 let Milton give HH a rest would have been a better thought !

Back on topic.....can't wait to see what TJ looks like in Coach Heupels offense !
