I know he would never beat out Ainge, just wondering what you thought he would do if Ainge wasn't here and Schaeffer was our starter. If I remember correctly Schaeffer's biggest problem was he would look for one receiver and then run. That caught up to him when the competition improved. Plus he doesn't have a bazooka strapped to his shoulder like Ainge. If he were here Cut would definitely have improved his ability to go through his progressions, but there's no way he would ever beat out Ainge. Ainge is just too good a fit for this offense
Even a blind pig occasionally finds an acorn. First, he would have been competing with a coach every bit as dull as he is. Second, I welcome TCHFCATUTK to try and make a living recruiting South Florida after this season when Greg Schiano is the coach at the "U." If he tries that, I'll get my change in Knoxville sooner than later.
How many great players have we gotten out of Georgia since Rodney Garner's departure? We all know that only kids from South Florida are good!? I think if you look over history you will find that UT has done as well as any and much better than most in going into Florida and getting top notch football players. He also does it in Ga, Va, Nc, Sc, La hell he even gets top notch kids from Cali.
It is amazing how a rube could get those kids to come to UT.
I guess it's the Forrest Gump equation.
Or catching balls from him. Which could, I guess, bring him more success.
Highest winning % of any active coach who's coached 100 games or more.
That leaves out the likes of Urban Meyer, Mark Richt, and Larry Coker.
Nice how you leave out the fact that Alabama was on probation and coached by clowns for most of that period. Oh, that's right Phillip Informer is a major reason they were on probation. What is his record against the best coach of that era in the SEC, Steve Spurrrier? Oh, that's right. Fulmerites don't like to talk about that.Let's see, the Vols greatest rival is Alabama. No team has beaten the Vols more. Alabama wins the '92 national title. Fulmer takes over as full time head coach in '93. He has a 10-3 record versus the Tide. He has 1 national championship, 2 SEC championships, 4 SEC Championship Game appearances, finished at the top of the SEC East Standings 6 times, and has 8 seasons with 10+ wins. His winning percentage is tops in the country for coaches with more than 10 years of head coaching experience.
Much like Heisman contenders, head coaches are now usually scrutinized to death.... like searching for any weakness. I don't think Neyland went through the same scrutiny.
Neyland never had a losing season, but he did have back-to-back non-winning seasons. In 1947 (5-5) and 1948 (4-4-2). The 1948 season saw the Vols drop from being ranked 18th as they lost 2 and tied 1 in the final 3 games to Ole Miss (13-16), Kentucky (0-0) and Vanderbilt (6-28). Neyland won 1 national championship, 5 SEC Championships, 2 Southern Conference Championships, 5 season with 10+ wins, and winning 82.9% of his games. In his 21 seasons, he compiled 173 wins.
In 13+ seasons, Fulmer has compiled 133 wins. At his current pace, he'll pass Neyland in wins by his 18th season.
As for saying "he had NFL players" and "he can't win without Cutcliffe".... guess what -- thats part of being a head coach, getting players and hiring assistants.
I personally don't know the man, but his record speaks for itself. Personal attacks should be reserved for a different thread.
Let's see where those guys are after 100 games. Remember, Fulmer had won 2 SEC titles and national championship in the time those 3 have been coaching. Only Coker has won a national title, and he's on the hotseat now in Miami (unranked and 3-2).
