Quit with the "we don't have talent and are slow" crud

I don't know how many times I seen the safety #33 run down into the center of the field only to realize he was in the wrong position and that Marshall and/or Mason had the corner and were running past him at least 2-3 TD came this way. That lack of discipline is on him. So why was he running into the box, our front 7 was getting gashed numerous times off tackle. Our ends were rushing up field and getting turned out or they were getting sealed inside. I don't think I saw McCullers make 1 tackle today. Our CB didn't get off a block the whole game. On most 2nd half plays the box was loaded with 8 and they still couldn't get contain.

Ive found myself hoping that Vandy doesnt run the score up on us. Talk about a team that has gotten better as the year has progressed. They play in the same conference as us right?

if they get the chance you can bet your sweet :shaking2: they'll not forget all those years in a row we beat up on em

Personally I think we have 2 despite coaching inconsistencies but one is sidelined.

No telling what a consistent decent coach could have done with Corey Miller and Jacques Smith... two 4 stars with huge potential coming out of high school. then you've got big Dan who should have gotten much better...... and you look at our DLine and it is borderline pathetic. no offense to the players.... with real coaching they might have been great.

but as it is I think AJ would be the only one. not sure if thats who you meant.

Really? Miller and Smith? They get shoved around like girls and never protect the edge. Their current dl coach is known as a great coach. They just aren't good players.

True, such an illogical point to assume we do not have speed.

Evidently we have had 2 defensive coaching staffs in a row that cannot coach angles. VNers everywhere have it solved.

Some of you are so dumb, If you did not see this coming today, then you should stop watching football.

Hmm, okay, but avoiding a problem is not a solution

Speed disadvantage is quite evident esp in key positions. FWIW, Butch has said as much. Footwork and quickness are an issue as well. Taking bad angles only exacerbates

Talent level of the starting unit and in some cases the two-deep is good but again overall speed (the lack thereof) is the issue.

the talent level is so deep that not one of our front 7 would start for another SEC team.

We don't have the talent, OP. If you bothered to even watch the game, even you might surmise as much.
Yet we had the talent to beat an SC team that beat Missouri.

No one can deny a lack of talent on the team, but to absolve the coaching staff for yesterday is nuts. Having entire sides of the field wide open has little to do with speed.

What I have trouble understanding is that it seems ok to say these players, these kids that work their behinds off, the ones that wake up in pain each and every day, the players that bleed for this University all for a scholarship, are talentless and losers. But one negative comment about the staff, the head coach of which makes $3 Mil/year and you're "mouth breathing negavol" that's a embarrassment to the fan base.

we do have talent. our o-line has been rated one of the best in the sec, so why 9 off sides in 6 quarters?is this coaching or all on the players?

Jayson Swain: "We have a lot bigger problem than just speed"

We have a lot of issues. Problem is people think taking proper angles fixes everything and it just doesn't. You have to have instinct, speed and technique, and we have none of those.

Could it be that UT hired a Big East coach? I know he won or shared that prestigious championship and the MAC championship several times.

What his record during those title years? He obviously didn't play an SEC type schedule. Did he ever go undefeated? Did Cincy ever threaten the top 5? Top 10? Top 15?

If not, how can he possibly expect to do more at UT?

This is what we should be asking instead of fighting amongst ourselves.

True but our biggest problem with offenses like Auburn or Oregon is our inability to play disciplined assignment defense.

Everyone saw that Stanford wore Oregon down with physicality but the real difference was their discipline with assignments on defense.

We try to build a wall like bama. Listened as announcers talked about bama building a wall, standing up OL, and letting their lbs and safeties come up and make plays.
It appears we try to do the same, but they just run around or thru the wall. Personally, I'd rather the front 7 just get upfield and disrupt. Shoot gaps, etc. Still don't know that it would matter, but at least you go down swinging.

But... it's the best staff in the country, Butch and Dave told us so.

While I am not a part of the "Far Butch" crowd, I don't get the mentality some have that he is above any criticism. At $3m a year, he should expect every move he makes to be analyzed and picked apart. If someone questions him, the "Blind Butchers" shouldn't automatically assume that the one asking wants him fired.

As a former coach, you can only work with what you can work with. We do have talent in some positions. However, we are not talented overall in the two deep. Should we be better? Probably. Does it surprise me that we look slow and beat down the last few weeks? Not at all. We have played the Numbers 6, 11, 1, 10, and 7 teams in the country in six weeks.

The game after the last off week we came out and played well. I expect the same in two weeks. Everyone needs to take a deep breath and let's give Butch 3 years and then evaluate.

We don't have any talent when we lose and always looks slow as well. When we win we look fast and love our upcoming talent.
