I think Lofton, Bradshaw, and Major have the starting possitions locked. Pearl loves Major, and hes showed he can play when he wants to. If he develops to play like he did in the Big Dance, he could be a very good player. I see Howell fighting with the fresh for starting job, and the 4 position will be up with grabs for Crews and Chism

Major will have to earn it next year

he will have to blow away Major to start. Major is one of Pearl's favorite players and they are great friends. Also he will have to get blown away to get benched as a senior for a raw freshman player.

Yeah, I'm sure Pearl and Major go clubbing together on a regular basis.

yopu uhh read the papers at all? Pearl called Major "His guy" and said they call each other all the time whenever there is something bugging each other. Pearl said they have a great relationship and are friends. Pearl even said he "loved" Major.

Pearl and Major may be friends but get this Matt, Pearl is out to win PERIOD andf I'll tell you right now if someone is better than Major they will start and Major will sit and that is FACT!

Chism has the ability to blow Wingate away. Wingate will have to prove he can be consistent and not play good 2 games a month. The only players that have their position locked is Bradshaw(no set position, just a position, prolly the 3) and Lofton.

that wasnt my point, my point was that the freshman would have to blow away Major to start ahead of him. A senior will start over a raw freshman anyday unless the freshman just is far and away better.

Pearl has also said many times that Major is willing to do what is best for the team. If that means coming off of the bench as a backup, he will. The best combo of 5 will start.

What you were saying is because Pearl loves Major he will start. No Chism doesn't have to "blow away Major" just has to prove he's better and more consistant which will not be hard. Chism is not soft, Wingate is.

This freshman is far and away better, offensively, defensively, and especially rebounding. He is also a better passer, a smarter player, and takes charges as good as any player on the team.

how do you know at all that Chism has the ability when he is playing against high schoolers who 99% of them wont play D1 college ball. You have no idea how good they will be when they get in this level. The videos i've seen on him, I was impressed with him as a rebounder but he scored half his points on putbacks. He was a very inconsistant on making 1st shots. He got a bunch of offensive boards after missing his 1st shots.

Yeah ok go ahead and believe that. I guess you got lost on who Chism played against this fall and last summer.

there have been many great HS players who have played in HS all-star games and stuff and never panned out. These guys will all be freshman next year, he isnt playing against what Major has been this year.

Well, then you obviously have no idea what you are talking about. 99% of his competition? He had numerous games this year against high d1 competition. He played against Thad Young, Brandan Wright, Greg Oden, Jeremy Williams, and Jason Bennett. All but Williams are 5* players and the first 3 could end up as lotto picks after next year. Pearl has even said that he thinks Chism is the 2nd best center coming out of hs only behind Oden who would have been the #1 pick this year.

obviously your a Wingate man and will be sorely disappointed next year. Chism will push wingate all over the court

i'm not at all a Major Wingate fan. I think he played terrible all year, and is a lazy inconsistant player. Read some of my old posts during the season about Major if you need proof. He is one of the worst starting centers in my memory. He has the potention though to be All-SEC which was shown in the NCAA tourney. If he plays that way he will be All-SEC. I'm just saying you have no idea how Chism will stack up with Major yet when he hasnt even stepped on campus.

OK I'll tell you what Pearl said.

Major will get agressive and consistant next year or he will come off the bench because both Chism and Crews will be more agressive

That is true, but I guarantee if OJ Mayo signed with us next year that he would start as a freshman. Major will have to prove himself in practice to start. It is not his job to lose.

did you watch the NCAA tourney? He played great, he could be 2nd team all-sec next year if he plays that hard. He played all over the court. He was a 5* prospect and was playing like it. The potential was there he just started playing to it then.

You obviously haven't followed UT basketball long. Charles Hathaway, Michael Curry, Shun Sheffield, Alonzo Johnson, Gannon Goodson. UT has, at one time or another in the last 20 years, started plenty of guys at center worse than Wingate.

Yes we all saw what he did in the tournament and we also remember the disappearing act he pulled most of the season, like going 3 games with 1 rebound

Man those are some blasts from the past. How about John Snodgrass (sp)? Anyone remember him?

I remember Wade Houston talking about how A. Johnson was going to be all world and save the program.
