you ever heard of players having a breakout game and playing at that point from then on? I hope that was his in the tourney.

We all hope Major finally gets it and it will be great if he does but Chism is that good and he's better right now than Wingate was this season

Doug Roth and Travis Henry -- the Karns duo. Could DeVoe recruit or what?

You cant say Chism is a better player yet when you havent seen him play in the SEC.

You can't say he's not if you haven't seen him play in the SEC. :birgits_giggle:

The sad thing was that Joey Brooks, who had a good career at Furman, was the best player on that Karns team.

Hatvol hasn't followed long enough or he's blocked that out to save his sanity
I personally didn't think Roth was that bad. Being overhyped created the impression he was horrible. By the time he was a senior, he was a servicable player.

How good was that Karns team? I can't remember back that far.

If nothing else, I like him because he flipped off the LSU fans. :birgits_giggle:

Very good. I remember them playing Austin East in the Knoxville Civic Coliseum. A-E won, but it was a great game. I think Karns won the 3-AAA state championship in '84 or '85.

The saving grace for Roth was that he could pop out and shoot the 3.

Just heard that Smith will be in town for the O&W game. Hopefully, the weather will be nice, the fans will come out, the football will be tolerable (a big change from '05), and we will land a top-5 class with Pearl. Wow. What a couple of years we have to look forward to!

speaking of OJ Mayo...is there any chance?
I'd be shocked. He and Bill Walker have indicated they'll follow Bob Huggins. I'm not sure K-State is exactly what they had in mind, but I would think either Huggins gets them or they go to Ohio State or Cincinnati.

It is pretty funny mattvols. You say that there is no way of knowing what Chism will be able to do until he gets on court, but yet you say Major is a lock to start next year. How do you know Wingate can be consistent? How do you know that Chism won't come in and push him around in practice? Yeah, he hasn't went one on one with Big Baby, o yeah, how did Major do in that matchup?

We dont know thats my point. You guys are all coming in here saying Chism is better and all this stuff when he has never stepped a foot on an SEC basketball court. Major has the job locked unless Chism comes in and blows him away and he would have to completly blow him away, I've said this the whole time.

That means he doesn't have the job locked. That is like saying Childress has the 4 locked and Howell has the 1 locked. All 3 of those positions are open, the veterans have an edge though because of experience.

no positions are totally locked ever. there is always the possibility for another player to come in and beat them out, even Lofton. My main point is you cant say Chism is better when he has never stepped foot on an SEC basketball court. You cant judge high school talent and college talent on the same court.

And my point is that you can't say Wingate is better when you haven't seen Chism against him. Pearl will start the better player, not the upper classman or his "friend". That doesn't win games.

Can't we all just agree that with the exception of PG, every position will be better from a starting and or depth position? Whoever comes out and proves themselves will start and capable backups will come in for quality mins. I believe this thread was started to address the depth at the PG.

Funny, last year this thread wouldn't have been near as spicy!

No, this thread was not to address the depth at PG. It had to do with Ramar Smith and the current recruiting class.

I wouldn't say that Chism is better than Wingate right now b/c we don't know, but he has a lot more potential and he is (at the very least) on the same skill level. He is more aggresssive and has impressed against the top talent in the nation so far. But I do hope the tourney was a break out game for Wingate and next year will be very interesting.
