Chism plays his best when playing the best talent in the country. He was impressive against Greg Oden when they matched up. He easily outplayed 5* C Jason Bennett when they matched up. He has played Brandon Wright a handful of times and has more than held his own, etc. Jerry Meyer of Rivals.com thinks Chism could be a 5* player rather than the 4* ranking he recieved.
I think Chism is a much better rebounder than Wingate is right now. He would have led our team in rebounds this year. He is more skilled offensively right now than Major Wingate is. He has range on his jumper, he can step out and knock down the three, Meyer says he is potentially a "dominant" scorer with his back to the basket. He is a good passer, has a good feel for the game, etc. He will need to work on his conditioning a little, IMO.
I loved watching him defend Thaddeus Young out on the perimeter when they matched up. It was extremely impressive. Young is considered and elite SF at the next level, but in the game that I personally saw, Chism had such good lateral movement defensively that Young was unable to ever break him down and take him to the rim off the dribble. I was so impressed with how well Chism moved when having to guard an elite SF out on the perimeter. In their first matchup that I saw, he showed a lot of offensive ability. He knocked down a three, he drove to the rim, he showed good low post moves and nice touch around the basket, played under control, etc. In their latest matchup about a week ago, both Young and Chism both struggled from the floor, both going 5-15, but Chism did grab 18 rebounds.
I think Chism is underrated even though several people have him as a Top 50 prospect. I think he is a Top 30 guy and should be getting serious consideration as a 5* prospect.
I was happy with what Wingate showed his last two games, but whether Chism starts or not, he will play a LOT of minutes, I guarantee you that.
