Random Recruiting News

wow, just read this:
Fellas, Kraig Appleton is a real person. He is a talented WR from E. St. Louis High School in IL. And he & Terry Hawthorne were one the best WR tandems in the country during their time at East Side.

I've linked a photo. I'd post it direct, but I don't know how to do that yet.

Also, the story about his missing the Army All-American Game is true. He was on house arrest and although he was granted permission to go, the presiding judge would not give permission for him to take the ankle bracelet off while he was in San Antonio. Obviously, if he had it on, everyone would have seen it and known that he had been in some kind of trouble. There were photographers at every practice, every event the kids went to in San Antonio. There would have been all kinds of photos of the bracelet & Appleton's attempt to hide it.

And obviously, he couldn't just tell the AAA people what was going on, that info would have spread like a wildfire. That's why there was all that mystery about why he didn't show up in San Antonio.

About the expulsion, unless people close to the situation have lied to me, Appleton has not been expelled from East Side. Other people have told me, he did get in trouble for something that everyone at the school is being real hush, hush about. But short of sexually assaulting someone, shooting or stabbing someone, or selling drugs at the school, they wouldn't expell him this close to the end of the school year. Not with just 5 weeks left in his senior year.

I saw that team play several times throughout Appleton's career and he was a joy to watch on the field. An incredible player. But there is a reason why the Illinois folks didn't fret too much when Appleton reneged on signing day & went with Wisconsin. There's a reason why my school Mizzou, recruited any & everybody they could think of to try to encourage Terry Hawthorne to sign with the Tigers. But Mizzou didn't go anywhere near Appleton. The kid's got some problems. If he solves them, he'll be playing on Sundays someday. If he doesn't, he's probably going to wind up behind bars somewhere. JMHO.

You really think Petrino is a good coach?

I'm not going to sidetrack this thread but I disagree.

I think that he has the hogs headed up. I personally cant stand that ginger, but he's getting results. I honestly think that he will build a team.

South Carolina pledge Sean Tapley looking around

ESPNU 150 Watch List wide receiver Sean Tapley, who committed to the Gamecocks in November, spoke with affiliate Web site InsideTheU.com about the current status of his recruitment.

"They (Gamecocks) have a pretty good program," Tapley said. "I like them, but that doesn't mean it's set. I'm still a commit, but a soft one. I made that decision, I was looking forward to going to South Carolina, it was a pretty good commit. But as far as now, I want to see what schools come along and see if South Carolina wants me."

Tapley recently picked up and offer from Miami. He was already holding scholarship offers from Illinois and Purdue. The Raines junior adds that Florida and LSU are also showing interest.

Another gamecock commit looking to jump ship!

I got odds that this is Spurrier's last season since he's never going to win the SEC at South Carolina.

I have been saying that for some time. SOS is cooked, he is completely finished. When USClite craps out again this year he will implode.

its just a rumor, I dont see how it could happen. My guess is that he ends up at some place like Carson Newman

Virginia H.S. linebacker Aramide Olaniyan continues to be hot since committing to Duke. South Carolina was the latest to offer him a scholarship today.

Palm Beach county football fans remain up in arms about the transfer of Chris Dunkley from Royal Palm Beach to Pahokee high school and they want something done about the ease at which players can transfer from school to school. It seems after a rash of senior transfers in the state of Florida this year, this one has taken people over the edge.

UNC revokes Hadley's scholarship

Former Armwood star Angelo Hadley has had his scholarship revoked by the University of North Carolina, the school announced Wednesday morning.

When contacted earlier by the Times via e-mail, UNC sports information director Kevin Best indicated he was not aware of Hadley's second felony arrest this month. The school then announced it had cut Hadley loose, the Fayetteville (N.C.) Observer reported.

we were close to landing this guy at one time

Former University of Miami quarterback Robert Marve is headed to Purdue according to reports. So much for staying close to home for this Tampa, Florida native

11. Tennessee

Tennessee has had a fantastic mix of superstars and steady role players over the years. Obviously Peyton Manning is the superstar of the bunch, but there were other great quarterbacks that somehow have been forgotten about by most college football fans. Tee Martin won a national title, Casey Clausen was a great four-year rock of a starter, and Heath Shuler was one of the school's most dynamic players.

Tennessee's fab five

1. Peyton Manning - The standard for all SEC quarterbacks, Manning finished his career with 11,201 yards and 89 touchdowns with a second-place finish in the 1997 Heisman. However, he'll always be remembered for not beating Florida and only winning one SEC title despite leading some of the most talented teams in college football. Tennessee won the national title the year after he left.
2. Tee Martin - It was his steady leadership and clutch play that led the Vols to the 1998 national title. His stats weren't bad finishing his career with 4,592 yards and 32 touchdowns.
3. Casey Clausen - The Iceman had one of the better unheralded careers in recent college football history starting for four years and finishing with 9,707 yards and 75 touchdown passes.
4. Andy Kelly - He was a strong passer for three years setting most of the Tennessee passing records until Manning came in and blew them all away. He led the Vols to a tremendous 11-1 season in 1989.
5. Heath Shuler - The Tennessee golden boy before Peyton Manning arrived, Shuler put up two fantastic years in 1992 and 1993 before making the mistake of jumping early for the NFL.

Someone tell Heaps that UW wasnt on the list at all
