Rank the 5 best coaches in the SEC

I generally don't participate in popularity contests of this nature since they are subjective in nature, and opinions are like... But, I think Bobby Bowden is/was the best coach in the state of FL, and for your boy to ever trump that ace, he will have to be a gator for a looong time. And THAT is doubtful as you intimated. Bobby BUILT that program. urbie just inherited and maintained FU, and painted the front porch. And the kicker IMO, Bowden has more class than urbie could ever hope to have although I think the number of felons are similar. I think THAT has as much to do with the state of FL as the coach.
100% agree with you. I doubt his run will ever be touched (14 straight season with 10 wins and top 5 rankings). As for the Felons comment, I don't think I can disagree too much. I moved to the upstate of SC and the culture, environment, etc is day and night between the two. I think that also has a lot to do with this being part of the Bible Belt.

I like Bowden, and met him a couple of times while being in the Gator band. He is a class act guy and truly humble.

That was me. I still say Urbs a good coach, but the next few years will take the shine off.

Take the shine off? Maybe. That really depends on the fans and their expectations, which from what I have heard personally are absurd. Just look at the expectations we had after we won in '98.

Here is the real question, if Florida were to slide like we did, would Meyer leave or would Foley man up and make the move?

I don't see them falling like we did by the way, way too much backyard talent for that to happen.

It's all speculation, right? Will Kiffin succeed? All signs point to yes, but we won't know until those games are played. Like we agreed on, a lot of winning games and having successful seasons is luck. Will Urban continue to succeed? It makes for good conversation during the offseason.

1) Meyer - Has coached great at Utah and Florida. I can't stand the man but his resume' is 2nd to none in College Football.

2) Saban - Built the LSU team that Miles took over to win the championship. He has turned Alabama back into a national powerhouse. Love him or hate him he is a darn good coach and recruiter.

3) Kiffin - He will do what Saban has done for the Tide. Mark it down the Vols will be back on top. Check out the Raiders message rooms and most of the fans still wish he was there. He did not like Russell as their QB from day 1. They have finally benched him in Oakland. Look at the transformation of Crompton. It is great to be a Vol. In three years I firmly believe that Kiffin will move up this list.

4) Brooks - This man can coach. His Kentucky team beat the LSU team that won the title several years back. He has now taken Kentucky to 3 straight bowl wins. That is unbelievable with 2 and 3 star players in the SEC. He also has Randy Sanders that we all thought stunk it up.

5) Dan Mullen - I know his team had a losing record but he has done a hell of job in his first season. I don't think anyone would have thought MS would compete like they have. He has my vote for coach of the year.

6) Spurrier - Can still coach but has a lost some recruiting expertise.

7) Petrino - Arkansas is slowly coming back. Don't know how they lost Dyer to Auburn.

8) Chizik - He has done well but Trooper Taylor and Gus is his best catalyst. Fulmer frigged up when he let Trooper go and hired Dave Clawson.

9) Nutt - Would have been higher but how in the hell did he let Mccluster's talent slip by him. He waited too late to display him or he could have been a top heisman candidate.

10) Johnson - What happened to his team this year?

11) Miles - Great talent, bad coach. I am glad he did not go to Michigan.

12) Richt - You could not ask for a better man. He is a class act, first class guy. Let's all be honest, this guy can't coach a lick. He has had a ton a talent for years and has underachieved. I hope he stays at Georgia just like everyone wanted Fulmer to stay here.

All lizard fans remember is the score. They prefer to forget the bullcrap calls that gave it to them.

I was jumping and screaming like a little girl who got her first pony, then the flag, then the call.

I have never cursed so much in my life...lol, I can laugh now but when it happened I could have killed that ref.

This thread was started by a croc...& it fits! Polls like this are silly anyhow. Just play!

What are you smoking?

It ain't banana leaves.

I mean really?

How do you say that Meyer's resume' is second to none?

How do you put Brooks ahead of Spurrier?
He won a N.T., not only that he won an ACC title at DUKE!!!!!!!!!

A lot of things wrong with his list.

I like this part the best.

Johnson- what happened to his team this year?

They suited up in the black and gold, that's what, it's Vandy!:eek:lol:

I dont think Florida will ever slide as bad as we did. Because of the states talent Urban would have to take "resting on his laurels" to a whole new degree to do that. But he will not sustain this level of success. If Miami and FSU get their act together. The gators talent will suffer because they dont have the pipelines built to other states to maintain the talent level advantage they have enjoyed. The aforementioned programs droppoff is also part of the reason I say it was Perfect Storm scenario he walked into.

I know you guys are Tennessee fans but you need to look at this question with no bias. You have seen what tennessee is capable of doing (Georgia)and you still think Kiffin did a nice job this year? Kiffin lost to a horrible UCLA game at home, Lost to a florida team when in my opinion should have won, Lost to my Auburn team at home in a night game (Tennessee has better atheletes than Auburn this year), Kiffin lost to an Alabama team he had beat but doesnt know how to coach a field goal squad, and got raped by a decent ole miss team. Tennessee is my second team and i look at this with no bias but i have to believe Chizik did a better job with the talent he had than kiffin did. Tennessee has a top 10 defense and the best RB in the SEC and still lost 5 games!! Kiffin might be in my top 3 coaches in recruiting but not actual coaching.
My top 5
1. Meyer
2. Saban
3. Spurrier
4. Chizik
5. Brookes

1. Crompton lost the UCLA team.. if he played that game like the 2nd half of the year we win by 2 touchdowns.
2. We lost to the #1 and #2 ranked teams (on the road) by a combined 12 points during a "rebuilding" year. Your right, thats god awful :fool:
3. We played Ole Miss with our 2nd string defense and 3rd string linebackers, also huge distractions off the field

How can you not factor in the bowl game?

He is the reason I play.

I'm just weird and I separate the regular season from the bowl games in my head. My mind works in abstract ways. I also don't think a .500 record should constitute a bowl bid.

Funny you said that... I started a week after I turned 14, when my dad gave me Are You Experienced? in vinyl for my birthday.

What's your weapon of choice?

'cept mine's yellow, has a whammy, and a built-in palm muter switch.

To be fair, do you remember bad calls that went in your favor? They happen, and they put in instant replay because of them.

To be fair. I dont remember many because we dont seem to get many that are that egregious. I honestly dont remember any "important" games that BAD calls have went our way.

Sweet! I have an Epi Les Paul; the black beauty one with that third pickup.

I love a good fender, but I haven't gotten around to purchasing one. Had a (69 or 67, memory fails me)blue mustang when I was a wee lad, but we had to pawn it to pay the bills :(
