Rank the 5 best coaches in the SEC

1) Meyer - Has coached great at Utah and Florida. I can't stand the man but his resume' is 2nd to none in College Football.

2) Saban - Built the LSU team that Miles took over to win the championship. He has turned Alabama back into a national powerhouse. Love him or hate him he is a darn good coach and recruiter.

3) Kiffin - He will do what Saban has done for the Tide. Mark it down the Vols will be back on top. Check out the Raiders message rooms and most of the fans still wish he was there. He did not like Russell as their QB from day 1. They have finally benched him in Oakland. Look at the transformation of Crompton. It is great to be a Vol. In three years I firmly believe that Kiffin will move up this list.

4) Brooks - This man can coach. His Kentucky team beat the LSU team that won the title several years back. He has now taken Kentucky to 3 straight bowl wins. That is unbelievable with 2 and 3 star players in the SEC. He also has Randy Sanders that we all thought stunk it up.

5) Dan Mullen - I know his team had a losing record but he has done a hell of job in his first season. I don't think anyone would have thought MS would compete like they have. He has my vote for coach of the year.

6) Spurrier - Can still coach but has a lost some recruiting expertise.

7) Petrino - Arkansas is slowly coming back. Don't know how they lost Dyer to Auburn.

8) Chizik - He has done well but Trooper Taylor and Gus is his best catalyst. Fulmer frigged up when he let Trooper go and hired Dave Clawson.

9) Nutt - Would have been higher but how in the hell did he let Mccluster's talent slip by him. He waited too late to display him or he could have been a top heisman candidate.

10) Johnson - What happened to his team this year?

11) Miles - Great talent, bad coach. I am glad he did not go to Michigan.

12) Richt - You could not ask for a better man. He is a class act, first class guy. Let's all be honest, this guy can't coach a lick. He has had a ton a talent for years and has underachieved. I hope he stays at Georgia just like everyone wanted Fulmer to stay here.

GREAT POST! Everything you wrote I agree 150%

I'm just weird and I separate the regular season from the bowl games in my head. My mind works in abstract ways. I also don't think a .500 record should constitute a bowl bid.

Funny you said that... I started a week after I turned 14, when my dad gave me Are You Experienced? in vinyl for my birthday.

What's your weapon of choice?

'cept mine's yellow, has a whammy, and a built-in palm muter switch.
Very nice ax...This is one of mine.

Yeah, but it was obvious from watching the game that Saban was saved by a hurt kicker. You can't coach a blocked kick.

That and you can't coach fat, Cody is the most over-rated fat man on the planet.

Him and Jared need to just go away.:)

It still baffles me that anyone can believe this. He had a losing record at Orgeon. He has a losing record at Kentucky. He is 16-40 in 7 years in the SEC. He has gone .500 in the conference exactly once. He has finished better than 5th in the division exactly twice.

Kentucky's recent "success" comes from a combination of adding a 12th game against Eastern, dropping powerhouse Indiana, and the fact that Louisville stinks again.

Really? I'm having a hard time finding a worse one.
I can appreciate why you don't think so. He did have a losing record at Oregon but a good part of those loses can be attributed to his first few years as head coach. In all fairness though, when he came to Oregon they had managed one winning season in 11 years. He was the first coach in history to take Oregon to 4 bowls and he finished his career at Oregon 9-1, winning the Bear Bryant and Pac 10 coach of the year and leading Oregon to their first outright Pac 10 title in 100 years. His first three years at Kentucky he went 4-8, 2-9 , 3-8 but in 2006 they went 7-5 with a win over Clemson in a bowl, 2007 they went 8-5 with a win over FSU, and in 2008 he went 7-6 with a win over East Carolina, 2009 7-5 with a win over Auburn (first time since 1966) and Georgia (first win at Athens since 1977), 2 OT against TN in 4 years, and another bowl birth. Let's face it Kentucky is never going to be barn burners but he has done pretty well with whats available.

I know you guys are Tennessee fans but you need to look at this question with no bias. You have seen what tennessee is capable of doing (Georgia)and you still think Kiffin did a nice job this year? Kiffin lost to a horrible UCLA game at home, Lost to a florida team when in my opinion should have won, Lost to my Auburn team at home in a night game (Tennessee has better atheletes than Auburn this year), Kiffin lost to an Alabama team he had beat but doesnt know how to coach a field goal squad, and got raped by a decent ole miss team. Tennessee is my second team and i look at this with no bias but i have to believe Chizik did a better job with the talent he had than kiffin did. Tennessee has a top 10 defense and the best RB in the SEC and still lost 5 games!! Kiffin might be in my top 3 coaches in recruiting but not actual coaching.
My top 5
1. Meyer
2. Saban
3. Spurrier
4. Chizik
5. Brookes

Spurrier? Which decade are we basing this on.

You are conveniently ignoring the fact that he wins 2.3 conference games every year with a schedule that includes Mississippi St. and Vanderbilt annually. His regular season numbers are simply due to very, very soft scheduling.

In 25 years in the PAC10 and SEC combined, he has had one good conference record, 7-1 in '94. In contrast, he has had 17 in which he won 3 or less conference games. In his best seasons at UK, his last 4, he has gone 4-4, 3-5, 2-6, 3-5.

Don't let wins over Idaho St and Louisiana-Monroe, or once in a generation victories over mediocre UGa or Auburn teams, or crappy bowl victories over East Carolina or 1/2 of Florida St fool you; against decent competition, Kentucky sucks. The conference record shows that, and after his 7th year, I think that shows a lot about their coach.

Rank the 5 best coaches in the SEC
1. Lane Kiffin
All the other coaches are UGLY...:)

You didn't say what we are ranking them for being best at so I just used my imagination...:naughty:

The one where South Carolina keeps going to bowl games.

C'mon GA, don't you know the rules?

Spurrier is eliminated from the list because he doesn't go 10-2 at So Carolina.

Miles is eliminated because he goes 10-2, but at LSU.

Richt is eliminated because he hasn't gone 10-2 in two seasons.

Brooks is on the list because he only loses 75% of his conference games at Kentucky.

Chizik is the 3rd best coach in the sec like it or not and he sure as hell is the cutest coach in the sec. Lane is next cute wise but hes got a baby face. Chiz is a man.. Lane is a boy

And you are conveniently ignoring the fact they played (along with MS and Vanderbilt) #1 Florida, #2 Alabama, a South Carolina team that dismantled Clemson, and TN in OT. I guess its just opinions but I don't see many coaches doing any better with Kentucky level talent in the SEC.
