After thinking about it a little more I now disagree with you & myself. I changed Jonathan Crompton and Tyler Bray due to the fact the Crompton did win some games and did show some heart.

Casey Clausen

Crompton could also read a defensive alignment and get his offense into the right play. Execution might now have always been the best.

What about A.J. Suggs? But seriously, I remember not being a big fan of Casey Clausen (silly how spoiled we were in 2000). Sad to think he was the cream of the post-Tee Martin crop. I wonder how good CC could have been if Cutcliffe had stuck around?

How would you rate them?

Also, now that Hunter's career with UT is over, where would you rank him among the "greats?" Or would you even rank him up there?

Just interested in everyone's opinions, now that another QB's career in the book of UT football.

None of the names you mentioned are in the top 5 qbs at UT

Casey may not have had the physical talent of Condredge Holloway, Tony Robinson, Heath Shuler or Peyton Manning, but he is 2nd all-time in every important passing category (see 2012 Tennessee Football Record Book: Records) and he was an absolute road warrior. Clausen earned that nickname "Iceman."

Clausen played with a lot of heart. He was very talented. My downfall with him, he was a "streak qb" . He was hot or he was bad.
When he was hot he was very good. I would put. Casey Clausen between #6-8 top qbs at TN.

I recall Crompton beating UGA AND USCjr. I recall Bray beating Akron and car windshields.

Crompton had 1 good year. That transformation shews what good coaching does. And no, I am not calling that prick a good coach.

Crompton had 1 good year. That is what good coaching does for a qb. And NO. I am not calling that jerk a good coach. Somehow he brought the best out of that kid.

I recall crompton against Wyoming.....with that said he had a pretty good senior season and shut me up

You mean the game 4-5 days after the coach had been fired???? The team was deflated. Arian Foster and Eric Berry were on that team as well.

But let me submit this to you....

Why would you say Tyler is better than Crompton?

Admittedly, Crompton had some bad games.

BUT Tyler Bray never won a big game, whereas Crompton won some big ones against Georgia and South Carolina, and almost led us to beat Alabama.

I mean, I know that Bray statistically was better, I'm just wondering what pushes Bray over Crompton.

(P.S. I'm not saying that I think Crompton is better/worse than Bray. I'm just throwing the wrench in there)

You know, you really make some sense here. I think when we had crompton we werent AS used to losing as we have been with bray. Seems like the sting of some of those close crompton games were magnified, where as now we would gladly take a win over any sec team. As for our school as a whole, that list of qbs is pretty embarassing since martin left. We should be able to recruit somebody better than those guys, and develop them. Thank god the bray/dooley era is over, now we can try to get some kid that can actually move the ball by not having to gun it 40 yards downfield and hope hunter or patterson makes a great catch. Vols, butch.

Yeah, i remember questioning how much of a fan i was when clausen was there. Looking back now, Clausen seems awesome compared to the rest of those guys. Bray could be/ have been awesome, but nobody developed the kid. Not to mention he's a punk. Looking at this list of guys, they all are kind of punks. I went to school at UT when crompton was there, and he was the worst. Biggest DBAG ever. But at least vandy and uk were a guarantee under him.

I got extremely depressed having to rate those QB's. Casey was the only consistent winner and he was the one I liked the least (personally).

I would not rate Hunter as one of the greats. He is a great talent, but never did much for us. It's a shame he tore his ACL, as he started that year great. This past year, he was way too inconsistent. He dropped way too many passes. Honestly, I'm surprised he's the number 1 rated receiver. He's a great athletic talent, but I would never call him the best draft choice based on what he has done. It obviously must be based on potential.
