Rank the QB's after Martin

I suspect people rating Bray over Clausen are too young to remember Casey.

I remember Casey well and think Bray is a more talented and better quarterback. Time has allowed people to forget a lot of the same criticisms Bray gets were pointed at Casey while he was here.

Casey Clausen
Erik Ainge
Rick Clausen
Jonathan Crompton
Matt Simms
Tyler Bray

How would you rate them?

Also, now that Hunter's career with UT is over, where would you rank him among the "greats?" Or would you even rank him up there?

Just interested in everyone's opinions, now that another QB's career in the book of UT football.
Out of six QB's Tyler would come in 7th.

We had Shuler, Manning and Martin before this group, so we can see one reason for our falloff. One has to rank Clausen and Ainge before Bray if only because they won games. Bray was very unlucky this year to play with what may have been the worst UT defense in 30 years. Clausen was lots tougher and more competitive than the Ainge and Bray, who in addition to being statutes in the pocket were SOFT as a baby's behind. Clausen was a falloff from this three star predecessors, and then Ainge and Bray were a falloff from Clausen--and all the others were terrible.

But let me submit this to you....

Why would you say Tyler is better than Crompton?

Admittedly, Crompton had some bad games.

BUT Tyler Bray never won a big game, whereas Crompton won some big ones against Georgia and South Carolina, and almost led us to beat Alabama.

I mean, I know that Bray statistically was better, I'm just wondering what pushes Bray over Crompton.

(P.S. I'm not saying that I think Crompton is better/worse than Bray. I'm just throwing the wrench in there)

Crompton never played with a defense like the one Tyler did . We scored 80 (79) against UGA and SC and still lost both

Personally think Matt Sims name should be removed from the list and never mentioned again. Punishable by death. But maybe that's just me.

Wasn't he at the helm when we had LSU beat before the infamous 12th and 13th men took the field?

I think Bray does have more talent than Clausen. With that said I would pick Clausen 10-1 over Bray. Clausen has some things I never saw out of Bray, heart, determination, and a brain.

Bray is the only UT qb that I am aware of that basically came out and said he threw a game. After the awful showing at KY in 2011 he made through statement he did not want to go to a crappy bowl game.
His actions against Vandy in 2012 were pathetic.
Bray has plenty of talent but imo his actions on and off the field make him the worse starting qb during my many years of watching UT football. I for one am glad he is gone. I don't think Jones would put up with his bs and he would be riding the bench in 2013.

The difference between Crompton and Bray is Crompton actually had somewhat of a defense

Crompton had heart and determination.
He took more abuse from the fanbase than any qb I can recall at UT. He held his head up , kept working and became a good qb.

lol....12th and 13th....we will never live that down. And probably shouldn't be allowed to,

I really don't remember if he was or not now. Unfortunately, I really don't remember much of anything good that came from him being here. But, like I said. Maybe it's just me.

That he did. I was glad to see all his perseverence finally pay off. I don't know that I have ever witnessed such a transformation from a qb.

Why worry about the QBs - its the power running game that wins NCs - rank the RBs since Travis Stephens left

I think Dooley was waiting for a reason to pull Bray out against Vandy and that turned into a debacle. I really don't blame Bray for the Vandy game as much as I do Dooley. Looking at the wins Clausen would be the top pick but looking at talent I think Ainge and Bray are ahead of him. I would have really liked to see Bray with a sound coaching staff.

Hunter is a little over rated, and Tyler was awful in big games when it mattered. CP>Tyler and Justin. Yep. I said it.

I don' think Hunter was really over rated. You can't deny that his injury didn't mess with him a little bit which you can't really blame him

Do you think that Bray going 6-17 with 1 INT in the first quarter and a half was enough reason to pull him? Bray pretty much admitted to throwing the Kentucky game the year before. Do you think it is possible he threw this game to make sure Dooley got fired?

Fair enough.. I was very disappointed in him this season, he wasn't the same. I guess after that happening you are a it more cautious on the field

To make up for our disagreement earlier today--I 100% agree with your question here and believe that TB did just that. I just can't believe anyone has the stones to say it on this sight--but I think both he and CP decided together to throw that game. :salute:
