Ainge
Clausen
Bray
...for the rest of the list, I spent each game wishing we had a different QB.
I liked Clausen, but I don't understand the excessive love. He was a solid, albeit weak-armed, QB. I don't go for the "he beat" stuff. Sometimes the QB is the main difference (see A&M vs Alabama this year), but even then receivers have to make plays, the offensive line has to play well, the defense has to hold them to no more than the offense scores, etc. The 2002 year when we started out #4 is easily the most frustrating I've ever watched. And it was the impotence of the offense that did it. Against Florida, Georgia, Alabama, and Miami we scored 13, 13, 14, and 3. He didn't play the Georgia game, but was pathetic against Alabama and Miami. (I don't care how "tough" a guy is when he's hitting 5 of 14 for 63 yds.) Using the "he beat" mentality, he lost more big games than he won. But...his time there was a great time to be a Vol fan. Teams on the cusp of greatness each year.
This year, Bray's receivers failed him much more than they helped him. Two guys projected in the top 30 draft picks dropped enough balls to add 50 yds per game (and probably a couple of wins) to Bray's numbers. With those guys playing up to par and even a mediocre defense, "he wins" 10 games.
